A wiki would be easier to develop and maintain.

Prowlinger, I am loving this idea! A PDF game guide would be amazing especially with multiple user's input.

As for using a Wiki let me suggest you create an account at a place like http://www.wikispaces.com so that not every single person who googles Supreme Commander finds it and decides to edit it or hack it such as the Wiki on Wikipedia. Once a whole guide is made then you could put it somewhere with higher traffic such as Wikipedia.

I'll check back consistently to see what you guys are up to and try to put my two cents in as well. Maybe once it's done it can be put as a sticky somewhere and the contributors credited for  !

If a wiki has nothing in it.... does it really count as a wiki? :P

Okay, what the hell... I took the liberty of creating a new wiki for this project on a free wiki hosting site (supported by Google Ads). It's very empty at this point. All I have is a title page and a little background info on the game, GPG and ChrisT. So I'm not ready to make it a public document. But if you're interested in contributing, send me a PM and I'll give you the URL. Once we get things going, I'll open it up to everyone.

Poseidon88, I think that what you are doing is the way to go so you can have some control over the Wiki. I cannot even begin to express how excited I am that the community is taking such an interest to helping each other! Thanks to all of you who are making the game an enjoyable experience for everyone!

Hrmmm, this is an intriguing idea. I might be interested in helping with hosting if that's a problem.

I'm a Wikipedia administrator, wiki bot developer, and I've installed/hosted/maintained two separate MediaWiki wikis.

Also I have a hosting plan (that I'm using with Supreme Commander Talk) and I'm nowhere near any of my limits, so I could easily add a wiki. Your thoughts?

Needless to say, the benefits of hosting within the community rather than using some 3rd-party service are innumerable.

Well, see the post history. I can't promise anything for the future, but our current average has been at least two per day. We currently have three writers, and we're always looking for more.

And yeah, I'll start setting up the wiki.

Shush don't highlight my inadequacies (took WAY too long to try and spell that right) in my drunken state.

Okay, the wiki is up and running.

http://wiki.supcomtalk.com/

Use it for anything Supreme Commander-related. It's a sandbox right now. I'll probably end up needing a few administrators if it actually gets used a lot.

its foolish to waste efforts on two wikies so we should prolly pick a main one.

cyde's or Poseidon88's?

Where exactly is Poseidon's? I haven't seen a link posted yet.

It's hard to evaluate something you can't see.

Oooof, well that's not very useful. Well someone who has an invitation please tell me what licensing scheme he's using. I'm using Creative Commons by-sa, which is the same style of licensing as used on Wikipedia. Basically, you can copy anything as long as you attribute it and release it under the same license. So the issue of separate wikis shouldn't matter if they are both using compatible licenses. If he's not using a license, though, I'd be a bit worried about how the work is going to be used.

Ah well, if it's one of those free wiki hosting things he's using, I don't think it'll be too useful. They tend to set rather low limits on how much data you can store. Presumably a playguide would need to be able to contain lots of screenshots, and possibly even movies, replays, etc.. I can handle all of that traffic on my wiki and since I have complete access to the hosting account I can manually modify the wiki's configuration to enable stuff like replay uploads. Not sure how that works on wikis hosted with such places as wikispaces.com, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't allow you to manually edit the configuration files.

I think we already have a very comprehensive article on transporting. Wouldn't want to duplicate effort.
