Very nice video, good angles and nice timing... would be good to have a slow section, something serene like a GC advancing or a nuke rising, as an interlude before the destruction begins again, e.g. to build tension

Since it's been one week, I thought I'd post an update:
The vid is currently 1:27 in length, with 15 new scenes in total (three scenes at the end of the first release were replaced, however). All in all, I'd call it perhaps a 2/3rds increase in content (there were 19 scenes in the first version).
Since this song is 1:56 in length, this part of the vid is nearing completion.
I haven't decided what the second song will be, other then that it will be a rock track. Here are sources containing either parts or the whole of some of the candidates:
Guns N Roses - You Could Be Mine
Quake 2 - cd track 9 (only parts of it are here)
Unreal Tournament 2003 - Infiltrate
Batman Beyond - Batman Chases Inque (part of it plays from 2:00-2:45 or so)

Well, I have some decent music I could upload. No lyrics or anything like that.

I vote for the Batman Beyond track.
If you don't mind lyrics in it, my personal vote goes to Ultra by KMFDM, though
Awesome stuff so far; I'm looking forward to the finished product.

Very well done...too bad you can't see this in a game as you are stuck in neary isometric view.
For the life of me I do not understand the GPG did not implement maddox's auto levelling of the camera at longest zoom. This is the only time I saw this was in the beta.
The default top down view hides all of this eye candy and blocks any idea of terrain. maddox's swiftcam mod nearly levelled out the camera view and it looked great. The more you zoomed in the more the camera levelled out

Okay, the vid's done. Considering how long it's taken just to finish the first song, I didn't bother with the second. I hope that's not a big let down, I'm just so freaking tired of trying to get footage. Maybe I'll make a second vid later on. *shrug*

New scenes are flippin awesome.
Nice job.
Don't worry about doing a second vid if the first one exhausted you, first ones plenty good.
I especially liked the Storks vs AeonNavy shot.

Thank you SO much for clarifying that! I was about to break into your house and make love to your PC based on that vid...
Actually now I'm kinda embarassed... I shouldn't have said anything at all, huh?

I shouldn't have said anything at all, huh? *slowly back out of thread* I PMed this to pdboddy when he asked, and it may prove helpful to others, so...: Quote: It's being captured with Fraps, and the scenes are being put together with VirtualDubMod.
That's pretty much it: capture scenes in-game via Fraps, save the parts you like from those captures via VDM, and then go through those scenes one by one until you find one that synches with the part of the song you're on.
The only trick is framerate conversions. On my comp, I typically get one unique frame in three when recording, so running the resulting vids at 75 fps and then converting to 25 (i.e. keeping only 1 of every 3 frames), gives me smooth playback.
Keep your original saves at their original framerate (10 in my case), because running those at 75 doesn't always work out. Sometimes the scenes are much too fast, and running at 50 or so will give a more accurate speed.
So, step by step, here's the process:
1. Play the game at -10 speed when you want to capture (like when a battle starts).
2. Go through the resulting captures and save the parts you like. In VDM itself, I have to run at 199 fps and decimate by 2 or 3 (skipping frames), to get it to play at a realistic speed. I don't know why you can't just run it at 75 fps at this point, but it doesn't work.
Anyway, when you've isolated a scene you want, keep the original framerate and save in whatever compression format you want (I go with max quality Xvid, although you can go with uncompressed if you have several hundred GB of open hard drive space).
3. Take these scenes and save a small version at 75 fps.
4. Take that scene, convert it to 25 fps, and save. The resulting vid is what you use to make the vid. You can now delete the 75 fps version.
5. When you've decided that a particular scene works, do steps 3 and 4 at max quality in a separate folder. This is your final vid.

Very nice video... the first vid in my new Supreme Commander videos folder
I look forward to more of your work, should you decide to continue your work. Consider your effort officially appreciated and enjoyed

Actually plan to do some videos myself; the nice thing about replays is that you don't need to record the best clips while you play, so you can still play at a good FPS, then come back later and snip from a replay at the best settings you can get at -10 speed.

Could someone who downloaded the high res version put up a torrent or something? That's more convenient for a lot of people than having to wait in lines and register for sites.

Yeah, turns out I didn't have to either. I guess I saw FileFront and confused it with FilePlanet.

This is one of the coolest videos I have seen of Sup Com
What would be cool is adding some of the realism slow motion. If you havent seen the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSUL3TjSg84
Thanks for the cool video and keep up the good work

Nice video! If I didn't already buy SC and know about it. Watching this video would make me want to run to a store and buy it.

There's an interview about the vid up at SC Live, which you can see right here. It was my first interview ever, so give me a break.
