Hey All;

There are a few threads running about beta participation, who should be in, etc. We've been through all that before, and I'm not addressing it here.

There will be some good news coming about beta participation within the next few weeks however.

One way you'll be able to get an invitation to these upcoming opportunities is to participate in and/or win GPGnet tournaments. Beginning last Friday the 31st of August, players who win a tournament or a named tourney section (such as under 1800, under 2000, etc.) will in time receive an invitation. Also, the first 100 players (aside from winners) to fully complete 10 tournaments beginning August 31st will receive an invitation.

More details about WHAT you are being invited to will be forthcoming!

One piece of information only: This does NOT pertain to the "closed" FA Beta.

This is all the information available at this time, so please don't harangue your faithful admins and chat mods for more! Just get into those tournaments, and have fun!

First! (lol)

It's good to know that there will be other ways to get in. How long do you think the closed FA Beta will run?

"Participatino"? :) For a mis-spelling, that actually sounds kind of neat...

Does "There will be some good news coming about beta participation within the next few weeks however" mean that there will be additional ways to get in? I don't need to know what they are, just if they will exist.

Lastly, do you think there is any chance of more tournaments taking place a few hours later than usual? School is starting in various places, so the current time will mean US teenagers can't play most tournaments.

The closed Beta will be about a month then? You should get some serious work done in that time. Is the later beta meant to be more of a system compatibility test?

Maybe for stress testing GPG and various systems but for balance testing it makes much more sense to have people who are at least somewhat competent and have the time to play often.

You said opportunities twice. Once without capitalization, though.

Sounds like a good way to encourage tournament play i suppose. Only problem is the absolute lack of NZ / Oz timezone tournaments.

I suppose i could get up at 6am and call in sick to work... but i dont think thats reasonable (for my work)... lol. Yawn, i'll get over it. 8)

they have to take place after the 31 august I think, cos they want active players, and not players, that played 20 tournaments a month ago :)

why would you want the 90% of all supcom players to have any input? thats foolish. better to leave it to the vast minority who play 12 minute games.

Ah yes, the OTHER stereotype. "Top players don't play games longer than 12 minutes. If it takes longer than that, they hate it, and if they can't comrush then they think the map sucks. Better not trust them because they don't know what REAL games are like."

Fact: They like long games with lots of fighting back and forth. The reason they think the game is broken right now is because massfabs, scoutspam, and instabuild assisting remove the fighting from the game because their armies can't get through the defenses. It becomes a contest of who can build the bigger base faster and kill the other guy in one big burst, rather than a match of wits, tactics, and strategy.

If a 2-hour game meant 2 hours of constant fighting, tooth and nail, over every inch of land on the map with experimentals, nukes, and giant mixed armies duking it out, they would love 2-hour games more than you. At the moment it's a race to build more fabs before the other guy, or use the Mercy to snipe the enemy com, which is boring as hell.
