How is this superior to a standard piston engine? It appears to use a lot of the same concepts. Is it any more efficient than a piston engine? The video stated at the end that it would be more durable, with less wear and tear, but a well built engine can go a very long time without being worn down also.

Not entirely sure myself, though I expect the lack of moving parts for exhaust is an advantage.

Just a guess but the standard piston engine expends allot of energy pushing the rod down.

Pushing the rod down in a normal piston engine is what causes the crankshaft to rotate. This engine design reminds me of the Wankel setup, except in the Wankel design the rotor actually moves backwards as well as around.
