It's super-useful. Some **** judge wants to block The Pirate Bay? I don't think so, bitchcake.

What, Tor or TPB?

Tor is nothing more than a super-proxy. I didn't see a single advert or anything like that.

Nonetheless it is being used for child porn and other stuff that shouldn't exist. The simple fact that a judge can't remove the connection with the pirate bay just by a court order has this as a negative (really negative) other side.

So is all of the torrent and filesharing network. So are DVDs and such things. More relevantly, the fact that some other douchebag uses it to share child porn is irrelevant to the fact that I'mma use it to get to TPB.

Next you'll be wanting to ban spoons because people get fat from eating.

You really don't understand anything, do you?

Yes, yes and yes. I'm only saying that Tor is also heavily used for child porn, not on what the required actions should be in order to stop child porn.

Well, there's the rub. If moral grey-area things like filesharing, whistleblowing, etc are declared illegal, then it further motivates development of things like TOR which also facilitates moral black-area things like child porn. (and incidentally, facilitates moral-white area things like public dissent against repressive governments, protecting your own privacy, etc.)

Personally I would prefer that the law be as permissive as possible, and only address critical issues, define technical standards, public safety, etc. Maybe there would be less need for stuff like TOR then. ie. "If you have TOR installed, then you're -really- doing something wrong."

proxys are nothing new really. I have used a ton of them in school, enough to know that I will always be able to access TPB. And even if I couldnt, there will be hundreds of TPB mirrors.

I'm more interested in things like Freenet.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freenet

It would be cool if some sort of killer app for Freenet emerged that made it super popular, and thus lots of resources are available for the network. When I imagine what a future Star Trek utopia internet might be like, I think of something like Freenet, where information exists in some other plane independent of anyone's control :)

Of course, it will be filled with a lot more kiddy porn than Star Trek depicts, but oh well.

Onion routing is not the same as a proxy. It's almost like a proxy on steroids on crack.

I understand things perfectly.

Tor is a useful tool, that just so happens to be used for kiddi porn, just because it's used for illegal things doesn't mean it shouldn't exist.

And again: you fail to understand anything: WHERE HAVE I SAID THAT IT SHOULD NOT EXIST?

I've used TOR and its OK.
I looked into it a bit because of the Silk Road, and if you want to be truly anonymous on the web there are more things to consider than just TOR.
