I've just bought a PC after foolishly making the transition to a macbook pro 18 months ago and I am literally so excited about being able to play Supreme Commander again. I feel like a child waiting for Christmas, waiting for my PC to arrive!

Question from a newbie: I understand that GPGnet has gone but its now on steam and there is also FAF. Where do most people play online? Are there (m)any still playing? And if there are, are they all super pros that will annihilate me if I decide to play online?

FAF is the best option for multiplayer. Do you have Forged Alliance? You'll need that to pay on FAF.

There are noob games to be found. Host one yourself if you want to make sure you can get a noob game. There are a fair number of super pros, though generally they like to play against other super pros rather than against new players.

Well ,to answere all questions,

Huh ,... what's FAF?
FAF(=Forged Alliance Forever) is a usermade client(like GPGnet) which replaces GPGnet to play FA online there.

What happened to GPGnet?!

This will answere all your questions. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=57459 Sad but true :(

Where I can find any information from FAF?

Here's the HP http://www.faforever.com/
And download link http://users.edpnet.be/zepilot/FAForeverLobby-519.msi

By thw way, what's with all mods and maps?

Thank you both for your replies :)

Its good to know that there are people still playing supreme commander despite everything that's happened. A testament to its timelessness.

I had FA but I have no idea where I put the disk. I'll just buy it off steam I think. Do you need to own the original version to play the human factions on FAF like you did with gpgnet or can I get away with just buying FA?

Thanks for the links Prince

As far as to whether there are many playing online, when I typically log on to FAF, there are generally at least 150 online, sometimes up to 300, and a large fraction of these will be currently in a game. Generally speaking, finding a game and getting started within a few minutes is not a big problem.

This is referring to FAF of course. Try getting a match on Steam and you may be waiting several hours.

Just buy FA, you do not need the original to play all factions for FAF or Steam, I believe. Alternatively, try typing in the product key for your box version of Supreme Commander into Steam, and you may be able to get both vanilla and FA on Steam that way. I was able to get both on Steam simply by entering in the product code from vanilla SupCom into Steam.
