Thats because nobody drowned his simcity in toxic waste. Or artillery fire.

You obviously weren't there for the FFA where I literally carpet-nuked him to death.

And if you left him alone for 5 minutes after he probably would have become an unkillable cancer again. In all honesty, pulse should pick up starcraft 2 - His macro would be REALLY good.

Oh sir, you have never seen me Sim City. Indeed, that's the way all my friends played, and my city was always the best.

Resources are shared among neighbors, too. If your neighbor drains the water table, you'll be just as S.O.L. as he is.

How is this a feature?

This is how it works in SC4 - except the water table is infinite. Air pollution drifts over city lines.

This is something done to put pressure on cities to clean up their act, since you can use it as leverage against them in negotiations. Trolls wouldn't be too much of a problem, since you'd have to actually make a working city that didn't go bankrupt (can't just build 100000 coal plants on the borders), but genuine assholes who don't care might. I'm thinking, though, that no city can be entirely self-sufficient, and since you will be forced to take on neighbor deals for something or other, this might not work in the ******'s favor.

However, if assholes are too much of a problem, you can always play SimCity traditionally - offline.

It actually doesn't in SimCity4. You can still use the tactic of placing your dirty stuff at the edge of the map or even the newer tactic of shoving all your dirty stuff in one city (you can easily pay the city's taxes with toll booths if you've got a good enough industrial center).

Bought SimCity 4 after reading this thread, have been playing it for hours since two nights ago, lol. I'm getting real bad graphical glitches and artifacting and stuff, though. I have it playing in 1920x1200 with a command line, but it still happened even at the default, really small resolution. Could it be because of me running dual screens?

I don't think so. I run dual monitors without any problems in SimCity 4.

What renderer are you using? I've heard that with newer computers, using the software renderer is faster and more stable than the hardware renderer.

It's pretty impossible for the software renderer to be faster than the hardware renderer, unless you've got a GPU from the early 90s. Or some nasty bugs.

Or you're using a n*x system.

Have you seen how slow their drivers are?

It has been a long time, but I vaguely remember there being issues when running SimCity 4 while having an extended Desktop, sometimes at least. There are also issues with Radeon GPUs. Do you have an NVidia or AMD one, Ertwyu?

Since I want to start playing SimCity 4 again, I'll search around for the old threads with fixes, hopefully I can find them again ;).

I've only had the misfortune of working on a Linux system once. After about five minutes, I went back to Windows and I'm never going to try Linux again.

I have an nVidia chip. I switched over to software rendering, and although it seems to be a tad slower, it got rid of all of the graphical artifacts. Now just trying to push my city past its plateau of 126k population.. I have literally no room anywhere in my city, and I'm reluctant to destroy existing buildings, even when I need more roads, powerplants, and water towers.

Is it normal for your "available water" to be much higher than the demand, but still have water shortages as the area that your pipes water shrinks? And what is the relationship between water towers and water pumps? From the small description on the toolbar, it seems like water towers produce water, but normally I feel like they'd help store water or ease its distribution?

If I remember correctly, this also happens when your water is polluted too much.

Pumps are just better, more expensive than water towers, but they serve the same function.

Well seems like you need an internet connection just to play and origin.

I almost played Battlefield 3 this weekend. Then I remembered it was on Origin. I didn't play.

Really, I don't know why there is a massive hate against origin. Yes I know it's EA but is there any other criticism against it.

The list I have follows:
1. It's EA
2. It's not Steam (which would clearly be better, we all know that).

Any others?

Origin is basically the same as Steam, but suck. For example, those damn ads which pop up every time you try to play.
