Hi

I have trouble starting my supreme commander 2. I just flashes to a black screen for a second then it crashes back to steam. For the few seconds, Supreme Commander 2 was in my taskbar.

I have tried everything in this stickied support thread but nothing works.

viewtopic.php?f=52&t=46615

There is nothing in the C:\Users\(UserName)\AppData\Local\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander 2\ folder because I havent been able to launch the game even once.

Also, if this would be relevant, Steam and Supreme commander is on the H:/ drive (1TB WD Caviar Blue), not on C:/ because its just a small SSD.

Rebuild, redownloaded, reverified, defragmented, allowed on Security Essentials and windows firewall, running in /safe mode, downloaded latest DX9 and Windows 7-64bit patched to the latest updates. Even redownloaded the game from Steam TWICE. Only thing I didnt do was reinstall my OS and start from scratch.

This is my DxDiag pastebin log: http://pastebin.com/3EW4ACJJ

My comp specs should be more than adequate unless the 7970 isnt supported by supreme commander 2 yet. (driver issue?) I'm using the latest Catalyst 12.2 Pre Certified driver from http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pa ... river.aspx

Specs:
core i5-2500k @4.5Ghz
8Gb DDR3 1333 RAM
ATi Radeon 7970 3GB
Windows 7 64-bit
Corsair TX750W
3xDell P2210 Eyefinity Portrait mode (3150x1680)
Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro

Anyone care to help?

Everything does look fine hardware- and software-wise. Have you tried disabling the secondary and tertiary screen yet, before starting SupCom2?

ok,

i've tried to disable eyefinity to run the game but it still does not work.

game still crashes to desktop after a few seconds, a blank screen like its gonna start, then it crashes again. I think someone needs to send me the old .exe cos I read somewhere about someone rolling back to the 1.2 exe and it worked.

or does the techsupport team have any other tricks and ideas I could try.

I really love this game and I've been waiting to play it on the eyefinity display but its not working after I upgraded my entire rig to eyefinity spec! (7970 + triple screen + 8gb)

Have you tried a full reinstall? or check to see if steam has downloaded all the files needed.

Also on 1st run did steam install any software?

it should off have it crash without a message looks like ram issues :(
What Directx software do u ahve installed?

ok

i've deleted the game again and redownloaded the entire supreme commander,

still the same, game crashes after a few seconds.

I installed the directx inside the supreme commander 2 directory.

I don't think its a ram issue because I dont get any BSODs and my comp is completely stable with all other games

Hm, maybe try it without the X-Fi. Just remove it from your system temporarily (or deactivate it in the device manager) and use the Onboard Sound.

Oh btw., what is your speaker setup in the Windows audio configuration?

Try setting it to stereo.

ahve you download the DX runtime from ms?

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35

and X-FI is not the problem as i have it to.

Do you even get the chance to see the supcom 2 into movies?

Yeah, try setting it to Stereo first, as LD suggested, before you try the onboard sound adapter (if you read this in time that is :D).

ok , i found my answer at widescreengamingforums.

Kept crashing to desktop repeatedly until I manually edited the config file. Did this with both three screen and one screen configurations, so it's obviously got a pretty crummy inital guess setup.

C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander 2\Game.prefs

Edit it with notepad and scroll down until you hit options. Change the primary_adaptor = '' field to your resolution and refresh rate (in my case '3150,1680,59'). Should run fine after that.

I think answer should be stickied because I think a lot of people are having issues trying to run this game the first time using multiple screens, the tricked I used was to disable all screens first (not just turn off, unplug completely from the GPU), got the game running then went to edit the game.prefs file using notepad to the desired eyefinity resolution.

So both your threads were pretty much the same thing? You only needed 1.

Good to hear that you got it fixed :). Didn't think of editing the Game.prefs manually either.

Hes got 2 different threads, And if you look at them both, they both have the same problem, worded differently, and both of his last posts in both threads are the exact the same.

You should think and re-check everything before you post something ;). He only made one thread.
