You all should know that the Servers are crashing in each month or once in 2 months.
And I guess Zep can't do much when they are down :/

It's often a connection problem (was the case everytime the server goes down a month ago), but our provider fixed it with a backup connection, so it won't happen anymore.

What happened yesterday was the installation of a distant reboot switch on the servers that cause our to crash, a electrical problem I think.

Im having an issue with the FAF Lobby. Whenever I go to host or join a game, the game launches but the screen is blank.

Things of note...

I have no issue launching the game normally whether through GPGnet or normal mode.

I have used FAF lobby before and successfully launched games before.

FAF is fully updated. I have even tried uninstalling and re installing it and the original game with no success.

I do apologize for seeming a little thickheaded... but I dont have sorian AI installed and my problem isnt with hosting/joining games on GPGnet, it is hosting/joining on FAF.

Heya Baron: There's a new version online from FAF.Deinstall FAF and install it again.
http://www.faforever.com/faf/FAForeverLobby.msi
Then go to "Find games" at the bottom and click the "Forget Alllaince Forever" button(Right hand side).Now it should give you a new window to patch your FA.Do it and then try to host or join a game.Maybe it works now :)

Can't wait for 3612, since it has certain bug fixes in it that I am eagerly awaiting.

Fixes coming this Saturday to the FAF Lobby:

  • fixed crash for people with accents in their windows usernames (yes, there are people like that... you guys sure gave me and GPG one hell of a headache)
  • fixed usernames with such names now comfortably downloading and playing custom maps (it's a problem SupCom and GPGnet also have, but never nicely fixed it)
  • fixed faction selection for ranked automatch
  • fixed rare issues with people preferring to watch replays instead of playing at least one game first (you know who you are)
  • fixed civilian IRC operators not having the right color in chat
  • fixed the clear dialogs not being entirely honest with the users
  • added query windows flashing when you're not looking at them
  • reduced the times a sound is played in query windows
  • improved chat performance (less CPU load)
  • improved failures in map preview generation not crashing FAF
  • improved ease of bug reporting

... and quite some more.

Nice to hear all these fixes :) But please don't compare FAF always with GPGnet!
It's still better than FAF even if you fix it 1k times :)

Code and performance-wise, it's a big improvement over GPGnet.

GPGNet still take 20 sec to launch (from clicking the icon to the display of all nick in chat) on my i5 8go of ram.

FAF lobby take... 3 sec (while doing the same thing : authentication, check for update, connection to chat - FAF must also do the uniqueId verification).

We must compare it to GPGNet, as it's the reference for us. And you can benchmark FAF and GPGNet, I'm not biased when I say FAF perform better on any aspect :)

But we still have to make clans, replay vault and tourney tools to have all the original functions.. But when they will be there, I'm pretty sure they will be better too ;)

Function-wise, it's better too - For example, you can see the map preview in the lobby of maps you don't have locally.

someone said yesterday on a sunday evening (I think it was Funkoff), that FAF had more players in CHAT than Halcyon! This is remarkable! Thanks to the team of FAF, it is just awesome. The rating system is surely working completely correct (after me reporting all bugs :P) and everything else too!

And the game's evolution since last official GPG patch is just awesome, lots of bugfixes and some really smart balancing adjustments (I call it adjustments, as noone really has to learn the game somehow from scratch again). Then the awesome featured mods, livereplay working again and always (just by clicking on a symbol in front of the nick names), 5v5 and 6v6 games and all future features to come, like galactic war. Its just great!

I know, Im a fan, and so are a lot of other players, but I just cannot understand those, who still think GPGnet is better. Sure, its the original place to play FA, but its not supported for years....

The chat is most of the time more populated than Halcyon. But the last few day, it was the first time that FAF had more games in lobby than GPGNET. I don't have the numbers for ranked yet.

Yesterday, I've implemented ranked AI (yes, we will finally know how well they perform against players).

Next step (planned this week) is game stats. This will be the first step to the replay vault.
In almost the same time, passworded games, game quality and best team composition will be integrated.

FAIL lol!!

FAF had after a few days always more ppls in the chat than in Halcyon but on GPGnet there are still more players online than on FAF ;)

Unfortunately, same problem. The window launches but will remain black. I can see and move the mouse around and the cursor is the icon from FA. Once again, I can launch the Lobby just fine and i can launch a game from my computer or gpgnet without a hitch either.

As it's integrated in the lobby, you have to remove all sorian related .scd (sorian and lem).

If it's still not working, please post the logs in the tech forums.
