For some reason, 2012 will be flooded with MechWarrior (related) games. In the past weeks and months, the following games have been announced: The trailer for MechWarrior: Tactical Command looks... awful. But I am still curious to see what the team will achieve on the iPhone. Not much is known about MechWarrior: Tactics, only that it will may be a browser based game. The last entry in the list is probably a trailer for MechAssault 3, since MechAssault (hated by many BattleTech fans) are the "roots" of Day1Studios (also the sound effects at the end sound like MechAssault).

iOS games suck Might pick up the pc version if it gets good reviews though. Never played a MechWarrior game, but people speak highly of them..

I want Mechwarrior to go back to the RPG style of the original. And IS only, none of that clan rubbish.
I'm imagining something like Privateer or Freelancer, but with mech battles instead of space ones. Heck, have space ones too, Battletech has an aerial/space module after all :)

Armoured Core V http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhWWZ4XPMxQIve never been a fan of AC due to terrible controls, but maybe the new one will modernise the controls. Personally I like high manuverability mechs rather than battletech's plodding ones. I mean, whats the point of having a humanoid shape if it doesnt offer benefits over a tank? (and is more vulnerable to boot.)

The point is rule of cool. And AC's control have never really been a problem. The control schene is part of the learning curve to the AC games and once you get past that there really isn't ever any difficulty beyond controlling your own machine. If it's that much of a problem for you, every AC game since silent line has allowed for fully customizeable button layouts. Not that I really prefer one over the other, but if I had to choose I'd take AC5 over a new mechinsult anyday.

I dont mind Front Mission either, although I'm losing my patience for TBS these days. Although normally I prefer realistic-ish military settings for mech games, Zone of Enders 2 has a special place in my heart. Z32 wrote: The point is rule of cool.

Real tanks are cooler than silly oversized humanoid tanks, tho :P As for AC's controls, the last one I tried was one of the later PS2 ones, and IIRC it didnt even use dual analogue sticks properly. All they needed to do was copy Virtual On and they couldnt even get that right.

Virtual On isn't even remotely the same kind of game. It has robots in miniskirts and schoolgirl uniforms ffs!

Besides, AC is all about robot customisation, right? Well, if I could customise my robot, it would be in miniskirts and school uniforms, so there. Also nuke missile boobs.

Looks really bad. Animations are very awkward.
Why did people hate MechAssault? (I've never heard of nor played it, just wondering.)

Because it's not a proper BattleTech game. It's completely arcadey, way more than even MW4. Just look at some videos on YouTube. Or just imagine the trailer you saw for Reign of Thunder with Mechs from BattleTech.

The more mech games the better I say. We could pretend its almost Supcom related.

Being too young to play mechwarrior when it was new, armored core games are really my only experience with the giant robots wreck **** genre, and I really really like them. Maybe that's just my inexperience with the finer side of giant robot life but it sounds like i'll never know...

The glory of mechwarrior 3 when it first came out compared to every thing else on the market.
It was also 100% to the fluff, looked plausible (as far as 30th century gigantic robots go) and felt like a sim. The light mechs felt fast but still like 30 ton warmachines, and the heavies and assaults felt heavy, the controls had some real meat behind them but it wasnt sluggish.
Then Mw4 and Mechassault pissed all over it with its arcadeyness. MW4 was acceptable I suppose but mechassault was a fucking joke.
Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries was also proper ace for its time, even though it had shit graphics (dont forget 3d was still in it's infancy) the story was really well crafted with real choices to make in the field that changed the game, not pansy story arcs - these were brutal choices you had to make.
Mechcommander also - what a gem of a game. I represented on this HARD back on Mplayer on my old 56 modem - at the age of 13 this was my first real exposure to the internet, voice communication and americans - look what it has done to me!
This brings me onto another point, kids these days, they dont know gaming, a 13 year old now gets cod and goes to town. Back in the day we had to learn about networks, lag shooting (1 mechlength ahead of your target when it's perpendicular per 100m/s of lag! and the variants for quake and cs) config editing, DOS! 5 vs 5 on counterstrike and suddenly someone gets a phonecall. Oh shit we're down a man.

Imho some aspects of MW3 are still superior in MW3 than they are in MWLL (foot step sounds and general mech sounds for instance).

Really enjoyed MW3 a lot. If I wasn't playing MWLL, I'd probably still be replaying MW3's campaign once every two years or so.
spuddyt, Armored Core has been a great series thus far. The story has never really been amazing, but the combat and customization has always been top notch.

Looking forward to this as well.. although I think that I'm gonna enjoy Hawken much more. Time will tell though.
