Well, technically it is possible. But not in the US, where those pizzas are just ripoffs topped with meat.

It completely depends on what you put on it. If you top it with vegetables, it would actually contribute to your daily vegetable needs, but the standard pizza doesn't have much of that. Especially those supermarket things are garbage.

The biggest joke is that they classify it as a vegetable because there's tomato sauce on it.
TOMATOES ARE NOT A VEGETABLE YOU IDIOTS

So what is a tomato then? From a cooking perspective, a tomato behaves more like a vegetable than a fruit, if you ask me. I can kinda see why people would like to call tomatoes fruit, but the distinction is a bit arbitrary anyway.

What I'd like to know, is how many nutrients of any veggies you might put on top are actually left after you bake a pizza in an oven.

Quote:
According to the Associated Press, a group of retired generals criticized the move by Congress, calling the decision a national security issue since obesity has become the leading medical disqualifier for military service.

This might be the last chance that the US has on this issue o_O.

Technically "vegetable" is an arbitrary term that doesn't really mean anything. It's sort of made up. All the things we call vegetables are fruits. Or roots... or legumes in some cases. And leaves I suppose. But vegetables don't exist, scientifically speaking.

I like how in the article it says "Children go to great lengths to avoid foods adults consider healthy"

Not true, the majority of adults that find certain foods healthy tend to be presented in the most bland manner. Oh look; Chicken, Asparagus, Corn/Peas, and Bell Peppers all served just cooked. Nothing special just cook it and serve it, this is why children don't like "healthy" food, they would most likely commit the fastest form of suicide if they couldn't eat anything else. If you want to serve a healthy meal you have to make it go from "Placing different cereal bits in different bowls" to "Toss it all in one, throw some milk and maybe a bit of sugar or chocolate syrup" otherwise they will go insane to the level Gary Busey portrays.

When kids are eating at home, they should just eat whatever they are served. Don't like it? Too bad, just eat it anyway, you crybaby.

Yeah tomatoes are a fruit haha

I dont see the problem with this though, they say you are supposed to have 5 portions of fruit of veg a day right, what if I have all of them with a huge stack of bacon also?

What If I eat 5 boxes of strawberries covered in chocolate?

It still contains the same nutritional value as the basic fruit/veg item just with the
added bonus of containing either loads of fat of sugar!

While you couldnt class a pizza as a vegatable, if you put enough vegetables on it you
can still get the veggie goodness.

I remember in England a few years ago there was uproar because some schools
were counting tomato ketchup as a vegetable when planning meals.

EDIT - for jack daniels post, this is 100% true.

I would like to add also the new "childhood obesity" thing everyone is crying about isnt down really to food, its down to the fact that computer games are fucking badass now and when todays adults look at the kids they think "oh it must be the food" well food is a lot healthier now than when I was a kid, I was skinny as shit as a kid and all we ever used to eat is fried stuff and sweets :D I'm a fat bastard now though because I enjoy a proper meal, meat veg all the trimmings and then a 6 hour stint on my favourite game rather than going out and playing football and running around all day. I think this goes for kids especially since they dont seem to be outside anymore.

Processed foods should be considered their own food group, separate to fruit and veg. I think an appropriate name would be processed food.

That pyramid (which is only truly applicable for athletes with high metabolic rates) doesn't list any servings of processed food.

Lots of stuff that makes sense.

Pretty much that. I can also second what toot said about the cause is no exercise because I was also skinny when young, but did loads of running around. Now I spend most of my time on my *** and am now 11.5 stone :(
Types of food are just for nutritional values. When it comes to obesity what probably counts a great deal is calorie consumption and burning.

Maybe they should start serving ice with vitamin pills.

Wow strawmen galore.

Whilst they recommend a minimum intake of various types of foods, most nutrition guides also recommend limiting intake of various other foods.

Besides, after you have your fruit or whatever, you are hopefully less hungry and thus less likely to snack on candy bars.

And sure, lots of people are naturally blessed and skinny when young regardless of what they eat. (heh, I still am, even in my 30's, although I have to be a little bit more careful these days.)

But the lesson to be learned is clearly from you people who ballooned in to fatarses later in life. It's not just about what you eat when you are young, but also about the eating habits and preferences you develop during your life. Teaching good eating habits to kids is a lot easier than trying to unlearn them in adulthood.

(even now, I find it hard to avoid the teenage/macho thing of ordering large servings and finishing everyone else's leftovers, just as some sort of masculine challenge. :)

I have presumed that I will become fat since I was about 12. I'm 20something now so probably won't be too long before I start getting to test that theory.
