you will never a get a orum free of spam bots but you will get a forum where if a spam bot attacks it will be deleted asap.
Or like steam does it let an admin check the user then allow them access to the forum.

Not only those ones , but also the spam bots that send their crap by mail every single time I post something @ GPG forums !... So Please fix that annoying issue too.

And how would the bots get your email? Posting on these forums does not cause your inbox to fill with spam. Unless you get a lot of private messages in which case you should be using the report button.

I want a screen shot of this email spam Manimal is getting.
I'm skeptical that it's only him getting it, every time.

Ask new users straight up if they intend to spam stuff? If they say yes, ban them before they spam. If they say no, they are obviously lying and should be banned. If they say maybe, they are obviously creative enough to be human. Ban them anyway though, just in case creativity is programed into spambots. Or, just post this: Quote: You spam, you get this They'll say "gosh, that's the BANHAMMER. This is serious"

It's getting worse by the day. Can we at least have the forum rule that you can't post urls if you haven't made three posts first? That way we won't be having the spam links on the forum (or at least not from the beginning) and also the google/yahoo bots will find less links.

How would help that?If someone needs really help and made a screenshot and can't create a link? And I guess we all know what an SpamBot is,so we don't care about the whole post and report this diretly. -Prince

That's not the goal at all. I remember the discussion in off-topic that the spambots were here to create links so that the search engines will find more links and therefore put the desired product or website higher in the result list.
If you get the url tags to be removed from usage, it might be that the search engines will stop working for the spambots on GPGForums and that therefore the spambots will stop getting here.
I'm afraid it's a temporary effect but it's better to give it a shot than not to do it at all.
I believe that XKCD has got this rule, apart from the capcha.
It might also be an idea to have the registering users select 3 out of a set of 12 images that relate to this website (IE supcom images). Might put the spambots off.

If that's the case, then changing the forum's robots file would also work - if Google doesn't index the forum, then there'll be little money raised by whoring links in here.

Or they could use an actual captcha instead of just asking to name a game made by GPG with Siege in the titel. That might help.

Yeah, but I was a big proponent of that custom captcha. ;P

The thing is that with other forums, it seems to work much better. The normal captcha and the custom one.

Something really needs to be done about these bots. I know mods are busy dealign with them, but now instead of just russian bots, we got bots with too much time on their hands, putting up Walls upon Walls of text up.
Yappin about stuff no one cares about... So Im all for the Custom Captcha.
