I think RAM usage was around 1.7. I've gotten FA to ~2.5 before on this PC (4GB RAM), although that's the highest it'll go before crashing (but doesn't lock up the whole PC). But that was back when I was running Vista Home Premium 64. I haven't pushed FA to those limits yet since upgrading to Win 7.
Also to note, I don't really have to do anything in the game for it to happen. I can start a sandbox game with just myself and then leave it after the Commander spawns, and it'll still happen.

Inca1Killa wrote: Hey, just a note for you guys.
I recently got a new computer, here are the general specs.
6 core AMD 1075 thuban 3.0ghz CPU gtx 460SE amd 680(?) Am3 Mobo Audigy 2 something or another sound card 4 Gb ddr3 ram Windows 7 X64(with 64bit FA .exe)
I also have core maximizer running.(I know its working, had to do fix earlier stated in thread AND ALLOW IT TO ACCESS .COM interface or something from comodo-IMPORTANT)
During gameplay, at start, its completely smooth, desired speed 0, max +10. After a few hours though with max AI on an 8 player map, gameplay eventually slows down to -4 or -5 with 4-5 AI left + myself. I have two monitors so I could watch my core utilization during gameplay, and after core maximizer kicks in, the game runs at smoothly with no more than 50% cpu utilization. Yet it still slows down to -4. Seriously, come on. If my computer can't run it, this game is not future-proof. Its simply not playable on big maps with a lot of AI.
After that test, I tried with Sorian AI, which helped for a bit but ended up with the same -4 speed problem. Come on.
I might include pictures of netspeed ingame and core utilization, if anyone wants it. Qouting myself for whoever asked for system specs.

Well, strange as it is, I am getting better performance without the core maximising tool on forged alliance o.o
When using the maximising tool, my 4 cores are used at about 50% each, and i get half decent gameplay. However, Without using the tool, I get better performance with my first 100% used core.
How strange...
Edit: nvm, I am getting great performance now, the config settings were messed up. Im no expert, but why does the game only use 50% of each core? wouldnt it have better performance with using, suppose, 75% of each core?

I'm not sure this is the best thread to post this, but since the Sorian AI talks about sim speed and better AI management I'll toss it in here.
What makes it so difficult to split the simulation/AI thread so that it scales over multiple cores. Also, if I've read correctly, the AI spawns branches/mini-threads/subroutines for each unit and does not properly clean them up when a unit is lost. What is required to fix the clean up issue and to scale the engine better?

That is true. All we have achieved with the current 3.4GHz quad cores is the ability for 2 humans to play 20x20 maps against 2 AI with 1000units set. Any more humans than 2 and you will see a slowdown, also any more AI than 2 will give a slowdown. Sorian AI will take longer to slow and fight harder. If you follow the 'TeamPlay' setup advice in the maps forum you will never see a slowdown. Most of my maps are only 10 x 20 in size, but the play feels like you are on a much bigger map. You should be able to defeat 2 teamed Sorian Turtle AIs in under 2 hours... so slowdowns will never appear. roj PS. CM starts auto and works perfect... however I only have 24 services running in game.

This is because of Turboboost which gives more benefits the fewer cores are in use.

If you believe it has a positive effect, you will be more likely ascribe a positive effect to it, even if it has none. Honestly, it doesn't do anything to significantly improve performance.
