It might've already been mentioned, but what if they added both economy systems to the engine, en then add an option in-game to choose which one to use for this game.
This way they can please everyone...

Since people have modded the old economy system into SC2 (in a hacky way, i get that), it appears to be possible.

yes it has already been posted and yes pretty much everyone would be satisfied with this. however, a better idear would be to allow the kind of mod-support as in FA so people could just activate it the same way one did with the 2x resources and stuff.

this would be better because then we would also have a mod loader wich is offcourse great for everyone.

People who would be not satisfied: Those who like pay up front/chunk eco, and the game is balanced so that is less powerful, since its easier.

What im trying to say, is that it would take a **** load of fine tuned balance, a la starcraft 2. AKA, give us an early beta.

This is the best way to do it, I think.

This is the most stupid idea I've ever heard. One of the biggest reasons for drain based eco is that it is possible to build the game around that eco type, so that you can have really big units that takes a really long time to build etc. If you have to build the game so it fitts to both we won't get either of the advantages that the two different eco types have. It will also be impossible to balance and there is not way GPG is gonna invest time and money in this.

Still means they have to balance two games instead of one, and as we know, GPG hardly has the resources to balance one.

No offense intended to GPG. An extra month of polish, bugfixing, and balancing would've done the game wonders, but alas it wasn't meant to be.

I think it would be best to make the drain economy an example mod. Add a disclaimer in the mod description and it should be fine. That way modders would have a great starting point and it would be child's play to make a balance mod with the old eco model. Everybody would have the mod already installed as well and it would be easy to host custom games online.
