In the Bin folder inside SupCom installation folder IIRC.
Also you should not need the CD to play SupCom if it is fully patched they removed the CD check in one of the early patches IIRC.

I like having a disk on hand just in case. Anyhow, thanks for the help, and your timing is brilliant. My friends are coming over today to play again, and I was waiting anxiously for this fix. They'll literally be here in mere minutes!

Anyone got a link that still works for the fix?

It's on page 19 +/- a page or two in a post i made.
Remember this only works for SupCom 1 because Forged Alliance has it built in.

Almost entirely works for me. The game still crashes, but not like it did before. Now the whole game just disappears instead of freezing when it wants to crash. Very unusual...
But who cares? I got the Forged Alliance. :3 My friend and I went co-op on Seraphim 'Turtle AI'. We STOLE their technology and used their experimental bomber against them. xD It was lulzy.
The game ended when we launched about 30 nukes at their island base and glassed the place.

Are there any suggestions to get FA to stop crashing on large maps with multiple AIs like this fix does for SupCom?
Without fail, and on multiple Vista 64 computers, I've played large maps with friends or alone against multiple skirmish AI's and the crash always occurs about 30 to 40 minutes of game time in when Task Manager shows FA executable memory usage at about 2.5 to 2.7GB.
I thought the address aware option that was included with FA was supposed to allow it to address like 4GB, and I have 6GB of RAM in this machine so I know it's not running out.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I think you have to set the OS to allow FA to use that much memory. In any case, since FA is a 32-bit program, it won't go much above 4 GB anyways. Also, the Large Address Aware header is already in-place in FA and is already working. It's using above 2 GB, right? That's what the header does, allow more than 2 GB of address space usage. I think it's the OS that needs the tweaking. The problem doesn't exist as much in FA, so there are no real modifications that can be done other than what MadBoris found.

Ok, so Vista 64 must obviously have problems, do you know how it compares to XP 64 or Windows 7 64? Do these allow FA to address closer to the 32 bit application theoretical 4gb limit ? Ironically, even solo in sandbox or skirmish mode with AIs, if you allow large unit counts to be built up for an hour of game time and then take it back to only a handful, the memory usage does not go down, it continues to INCREASE! It seems to stabilize to a very slow increase once units are not being created, but still, that's very counter-intuitive. I assume this must be due to bad OS memory management and/or memory leaks GPG missed related to wreckage or unit creation/destruction. The same crashes happen in multiplayer games just as reliably as single player w/numerous AI's, it just takes longer in game time. The errors are always the same and memory usage almost always within 100mb of 2.5gb regardless of map, mod, or game conditions. Very frustrating for large team games at Lan parties. Everyone I play with games with Vista 64 though, hopefully someone can shed light on other 64 bit OS memory usage before I go out and buy a different version of windows to try...

I think the limitation is really 4 gigs - your GPU memory. Chaning from Vista might help but the best way to solve the crashing issue is to play on smaller maps and use Sorian/Duncans AI or play vs each other. The AIs have memory leaks so they cause the game to exceed the memory limit.

There indeed are some memory bugs in the game, mainly centered around the AI. Did you ever try the command "BCDEDIT /increaseuserva #"? It might not apply to Vista 64, but it's needed on 86 to allow for more than 2 GB address space. There might be a need because I'm not sure if a 32-bit process will automatically be addressed up to 4 GB of address space even on a 64-bit OS.

The AIs have memory leaks so they cause the game to exceed the memory limit. The maps size seems to help, but all my games with this problem in the last few months have been using the Sorian AI. It's probably related to the functions the AI code calls in the game engine I guess... It's fun to play 8 player team games on smaller maps sometimes, but they end so quickly. A lot of us prefer larger maps with longer drawn out games so I'm going to investigate this as much as I can before we give up.

Everything I've found says that switch only applies to 32bit versions of windows as the 64 bit kernels were rewritten to address more ram. What I'm hoping is maybe someone with xp 64 or windows 7 64 could run a big 8 player map for many hours with lots of Sorian AIs fighting each other and see if they can get xp or win 7 to show it's using >3gb? It takes hours on my q6600 overclocked to 3ghz with 6gb of RAM to get to the 2.5gb of ram usage so this might take awhile. However, when it crashes on Vista 64 at least, it always seems to keep the application memory use frozen so I can check in task manager what it was approximately using at any time after it crashes.

Yeah, that would be nice. I know I have the same issue on mine as well.
Ironically enough, I didn't used to have the issues... then I stopped playing for a while due to RL, then started again and had the issue. I can't remember if I did an OS reinstall during that time, though....

Also how many AIs are you playing with and are you using a custom AI like Sorian?

well fa only uses 2gb MAX on 32bit systems no idea why that is but try upgrading to a 64 bit system that may help you

Microsoft says:
User-mode virtual address space for each 32-bit process X86 Windows 2 GB Up to 3 GB with IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE and 4GT
X64 Windows 2 GB with IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE cleared (default) 4 GB with IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE set
That means that Windows 7 Ultimate X64 is NOT limiting Forged Alliance from going above 2.5G RAM yet the game will crash between 2.3G-2.5G RAM Usage.
Sucks too because I have Windows 7 Ultimate X64,I7(Sandy Bridge),8G RAM, and a 6970 video card.

The 3603 Beta rocks! it dropped the RAM usage by 1G over the 3599.
I can still get the game to crash on a 81K map at 2.5G usage but now I can't get to 2.5G on a 20k or 40k map.
