After a lot of work put into making videos on Supreme Commander me and a friend have come up with a story that we will put together. We hope to make quite a few episode (so far 19 episodes split up into 5 series) but we dunno how far we will get. would also like some ideas from people to see how we can make them more 'Epic'
Starts off in Supcom FA for the first Episode and links to Supcom 2 from Episode 2 and on. they are made as short as possible to fit on YouTube but most will be 10mins and over. Tau'ri has done all the editing so he should get most the credit ^^

If anyone is to come back and read this wondering where the next episode is, its going to come but we are waiting for ReVamp mod to update with new units before we start. It should be epic when its done though!

I only watched Episode 1 part 1 so far and overall it is very good, and I really like the music choice, but you overused the "tilt camera and zoom" thing way too much. In some scenes it was good and fit right in, but it felt like 90% of the time it would have looked better without it.

Also, at 7:50, the spinning around the battle would have been better if there was less spinning. The spinning was pretty fast and it just felt dizzying rather than epic.

All said though what I've seen so far is very good. I like the use of Blackops and 4th Dimension, but you really should credit them so they don't get mad.

Just watched part 1 of the first one. Looked really good.

Only complaint was there was way too much camera tilting. The zooming was nice but the constant tilting was distracting.

I'll watch the others later on.

I wasn't going to use credits until the very last Episode where we could do it all in one.
Episode 2 doesn't have as much spinning in it as in supcom 2 you cant slow the camera speed ^^ although i thought the zoom effect made the battles seem more lively so we used them.

The tilting would make it a more epic if you weren't making it tilt so far, right now in Episode 1 (just finished watching all of it) it feels like you are tilting 45 degrees.

Firstly, learn to English. It's more than a little jarring to see the bad grammar.

Secondly, learn to music. You had some epicish sound effects, and then just spammed them through the whole thing. Epic music is only epic when used epically, not like you're-taking-a-piss common.

Thirdly, you had absolutely no sync between the music and what was going on. There was this epic moment of silence, then the music just kept going and we kept looking at the UEF army. Then a Gunther fired randomly.

Fourthly, the camera spinning is seriously overused and totally unfocused.

The whole video just feels like you said "Oh, let's get epic music, a few big robots, throw it all together, zoom the camera round randomly, and it'll be graet!". It has no direction, no synchronization. I stopped watching half-way through.

Starts with epic music- in an epic shot. The video doesn't dwell unnecessarily on impending things- it gets goddamn over with it. The camera is fixed on certain elements at a time- the UEF base, then the Cybran torpedo bombers, for example. It never just pussies around randomly. When the intense land battle starts, the music speeds up in sync. When the Monkeylord comes up, it plays the catchy tune. When the Monkeylord dies, the music fits what's going on.

That is an epic battle and it still turns me on.

I always loved the top-down slowly scrolling perspective in gives during the battle in the middle. The music and camera motion just fit the subject so perfectly, I'd sometimes start up supcom and not make it past the title screen for a good 5 minutes, just enjoying that little video loop.

EDIT: the video itself earsna resounding meh from me. It's hard to feel like you guys even tried, it's almost like something anyone could pull off just running fraps while they play in sandbox.

I couldn't tell you exactly what makes it not-awsome because I'm not really an expert on visual composition. I think we've got atleast 3 videomaking pros lurking in this forum, so you shoulde probably talk to them for some constructive feedback and advice.

Speaking of which, where the hell'd rake go with his supcom 2 video?

I enjoyed the video; its much better than what I could have done.

How did you manage to get past the built in angle definer pan thingy in supcom 2?

Ive been trying to figure this out for a while, and can't!

I liked the first episode, it is amateur work, but still fairly good.

The second episode, sorry to say it, but if the game does not run smooth when you record how do you think the movie will look ? It is plain awefull to watch the movie (and I actually watched it to the end).

All said, keep doing it, you show potential. Just make sure you take the 'bad comments' and improve on those areas

Remix? There isn't one. it was just a cut from the start of the song.

by the way baal, if you're that close to done already I hope you've taken some of the criticism to heart and intend to put some real time and effort into making this something more than just recorded sandboxing with poorly fitting music. Gamespeed and framerate is one possible issue you might want to address.

Its taken longer than you think. We finished episode 2 along time before we uploaded it. For Episode 3 we have almost finished recording and have put together one of the battles. Now i know what to improve episode 3 should be much better, just gotta change the music so it fits better and then will start work on the next part of episode 3. Hopefully it will be done by Friday if all goes to plan

Also do you want ANY zooms and tilts? if so please say because we don't wanna put to many.

If you're going to move the camera while recording, just be sure to make it SMOOTH. The jerky movements in the other videos looked like you were just shifting back and forth, or up and down, and were rather painful to watch. Try to make it so that it's a consistant pan and not stuttering forward schizophrenicly.

Not really, they make the videos worse more often than not.

Zooms can be alright though, as long as you don't overuse them.

I think the one on YouTube is the Love & Loss (No Synth) it sounds the same as the on i have. The one used in part 2 is just called Love & loss.

Now I hear it. Its just barely audible in the one I posted.
