Well Square Enix replied back to him. From the supprt email he submitted. Told him to update sound and video drivers. Which he did for sound. But video was up to date. So he just redownloaded and reinstalled. Still didn't work or solve the problem. Has the same error message... XP SP3 installed on his PC...

game.pref isn't supposed to be there. instead, look for it in; Code: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Gas Powered Games\ [PS:] copy-paste that to the address bar, and it should work regardless of your username.

I also have no Game.pref anywhere on my computer, and the recent update hasn't resolved the commit failure: 2 error.
I have also reinstalled twice, verified the files via Steam. Even launching the SupCom2.exe outside of Steam continues to produce the error.
Other than upgrading to Windows 7, any suggestions?
Video and Sound drivers are up to date.

You do have a Game.prefs file, since you said, that the game worked on release. The Game.prefs is located here Quote: C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander 2\ under Windows XP and here Quote: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander 2\ under Windows Vista/7. Keep in mind that those are hidden folders.

there are 2 or 3 folks at the Steam forums with the same Commit Failure message. If/when a solution is found for this in this topic, if anyone can, please hit the steam forum topic here and spread the love: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... ?t=1294002

I've turned on hidden files and cannot find the specified file in the place that you suggest for XP. I searched my computer and found the supreme commander folder inside a folder for steam.
My drivers are all up to date so I am at a complete loss as to what the issue is.

This looks more like a problem with Steam. What applications are running in the background?

At this point I have a hunch that you should try disabling any antivirus or anti-malware applications you may have running, and ensure that you are running as an administrator when you first try to trigger the game.
This is especially important the first time you run version 1.15.
If you try this, please report back here with your findings, good or bad.

Servo, do the old problems of statically linked files still exist with Sup2? a bunch of issues came up because FA was linked differently to vanilla.

I've tried uninstalling SC 2 and steam, reinstalling both and installing Direct X as well as all of the other issues which you guys have suggested, none of them seem to be working.
As far as the drivers go I've identified two issues (which may or may not be related). To update my "Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio" driver any further it requires an update from Nvidia, which I can download no problem but it refuses to install, it just comes up with the installation page then disappears without actually doing anything.
It also appears that I need to update my (7) PCI Standard RAM Controller, which again I can download the driver for (NForce) but it seems this doesnt work on XP and is only suitable for Windows Vista.
I therefore think that this issue may be related to these driver problems which are only solvable by having Vista, and therefore perhaps this game is not playable on XP as I seem to have no problem playing it on my other computer with Vista installed (it loaded first time).
