Some trolls yelled at Istari and Frogboy, and now they've said we don't get anymore content. Does GPG have a say in this or are we pretty much screwed?

I have never seen this happen before. I'm thoroughly confused.

See http://forums.demigodthegame.com/373747

That's what Istari said:
Quote:
The announcement and store link were scheduled to go up today but the plan has changed to simply add it to everyone's accounts with the consequence being that there will be no additional demigods or maps added since it is pretty clear that the amount of hostility would overcome any value of the additional content.

I almost think they were looking for an excuse to not have to deliver more DLC. It's the only reason I can think of.

Is there any way to contact GPG about this?

Obvious excuse is an obvious excuse.

Here's Frogboy's response:

"Hi guys,

I'm waiting for the compiler on another project to finish so let me take a minute to address this.

There are a lot of different issues in place here so I'll try to be as succinct as I can be.

First, I don't think most people realize that Stardock is only the publisher of the game in North America and digitally. Atari is actually the worldwide publisher (outside of North America). But the responsibility to support the game and community (and more specifically pay for said costs) has been on us. That's not Atari's fault. We volunteered to do that. Post-release updates are something we think is very crucial.

That's why Stardock paid for the post 1.0 updates of Demigod. It's why we assigned our own developers to fix multiplayer connectivity issues (and why we volunteered to take responsibility for it when GPGNet wasn't an option). And it's why we paid for the creation of two additional Demigods. We weren't legally responsible to do any of this. We didn't have to do it. But our name was on the box and it is something we felt needed to be done.

Unfortunately, in the case of Demigod, all too often our efforts are met with ill-will. Because users see us out there so much, users assume that every real or imagined issue they have with the game is because of Stardock. I've seen people say they won't ever buy another Stardock game because of Demigod. And of course, we've seen how people reacted to yesterday's update that added an additional Demigod.

We want users to be happy with the game. We are happy with Demigod. We like hanging out with many of the members of the community. But I think it's clear that it would be a huge mistake to try to release future non-free updates for Demigod (i.e. map or demigod modules). Certainly, some people would buy such content. But not enough to where I would feel comfortable justifying our team or asking GPG's team work on it, especially when it would likely generate a great deal of ill-will by people who feel entitled to unlimited free content -- and who are very vocal.

It was promised that there would be more Demigods released. Stardock paid for them to be made to make sure we kept the promise. They've been made, they're awesome, and they're released. From here, we'll see how the game evolves. There's a lot of "stuff" that will get added to Demigod via Impulse in the coming months but we won't be paying for additional maps and demigods to be made."

seems like a pretty level-headed response by Frogboy, there. i'll pay my respects to him for the comment about not doing non-free DLC (well done!).

I don't know Bullet, this is the first time I'm genuinely disappointed with Brads response. What I'm taking away from this is that a handful of vocal clowns derailed plans to offer substantive pay to play DLC. The free updates is not a silver lining. They will not include the big things that are most desired, new demigods and maps.

I don't see why you are pleased about this, unless you think we'll be getting major content for free, which is not likely. Unless a proper expansion takes the place of Pay-DLC this is literally a bullet through Demigod's heart.

i understand that free DLC means very little DLC. make no mistakes about that. i'm just one of those people that prefer to have content packaged into a large expansion pack (paid DLC or retail), over micro-transactions.

Cross your fingers for the expansion then because without that, imo, this games in trouble (like it needs any more). :(

Seriously, Did I miss something big here or what. I never really saw any storm of whiners at all. The peak I saw was like 2 threads on the forums, and a lot of people entering the IRC channel to ask how to get the new demigod.

Apart from some really heavy flaming on a few posts, this patch had really no more flaming than any other patch, in any other game!

Admittedly I don't spend much time on the Stardock forums anymore. I find the quality of most the people posting there....lacking. Which is a shame because there are cool people in the community, the devs included, they just get drowned out by everyone else.

After seeing this thread I hopped over to look and in addition to the original whining threads I'm seeing RE: Whining threads. Counter threads with generic "patch is awesome" comments. Threads asking, wtf Stardock, after Istari and Frogboy said no to future content.

I suppose it isn't any worse than many other gaming forums, true. I guess it just appears unusual in comparison to the usual complaining that goes on over there. I wanted to cus out all the bitchy whiners for bringing this on, but I'm more agitated by Stardock's handling of this than anything else right now.

I've been a fan of Frogboy and his whole "We're just fanboys making games, not true professionals" shtick. I love the transparency, the willingness to tell idiots to go away and never buy another Stardock game, please. But for once I'm seeing the downside. I'm very unimpressed with the handling of this. I just figured of all people, Frogboy and his crew would know better than to let a vocal minority derail things so badly. They did screw up by not doing a better job publishing the purpose for the new system and all, and now they are making it worse by saying "no DLC for you."

Yea, this. I don't even know what happened; I tried Spooky's store-link yesterday, it didn't work, so I just went to bed figuring it would be good by now. So I checked their forums and found that apparently some "big thing" went down...
I mean, besides, how many people seriously visit those forums? 100? 200?

Yes. I've always been impressed by Frogboy before now. But just saying you won't make any DLC because of some trolls on an internet forum is simply absurd.

If they don't go back on that comment decently soon, then I'm calling it being more of an excuse to avoid making any more DLC (albeit, that doesn't all that much sense, since presumably that DLC would have been paying DLC...but who knows).

Hm did Frogboy actually say anywhere there wont be anymore DLC?

All I saw was that he stated that along with the Oculus release, the Free DLC that was promise at released was now done, and no more Free DLC would be released.

Wait what? Banning them [i.e. the trolls] would be fair. Not doing anymore DLC because a few people trolled on an online message board would not be.

Keep in mind creating DLC is not a five minute job allot of work goes into it. Stardock volunteered to give us those demigods and what do they get for it? people trolling about their work.

Compare the 3 playable demigod maps with the 1 dota map and you will see the one dota map is a lot more enjoyable over time.

I play league of legends there I have a lot more content and players and all for free.

That 1 map has a lot more depth than anything Demigod has to offer with it's terrible map design.
