Can I ask a GPG represnetative here if they could forward the idea to GPG to write a developer post mortem at Gamasutra? I love reading the trials and tribulations of game development, and I really want to know why demigod turned out to be such an abortion (the netcode is still awful and there's no option to turn off autodrop). The game felt on release like it was released way too early and that there was developer strife during the game's development. I see posts on stardock forum that complained that only 23% of demigods buyers actually went online... WELL DUH the game was unfinished and had no real single player component it was a complete rip off of DOTA warcraft 3 mod, and Demigod was succeeded by heroes of http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/
Heroes of Newerth is a new RTS made in the vein of such games as DotA (the immensely popular Warcraft 3 mod), developed by S2 Games, the guys behind series such as Savage. A lot of the game has been taken directly from DotA, such as the items and a number of heroes. However, all of this has been done with Icefrog's (the developer of DotA) blessing, and the game in beta form certainly looks exciting.
You can find one about sins of a solar empire (Stardock/ironclad) here:

Well, well, it looks like the Demigod trolls reached the GPG forum too now.

Please someone lock this.
This is not even a whine post. This is a guy trying to sell HoN.
The netcode is fine, you don't know what you're talking about. Demigod and Dota are completly different games, which you would know if you would you know... play it.

Go away now.
You sound like every idiot crying on stardocks forum. Talking about netcode like you have even the slightest clue is pathetic.

Man you are a bunch of sissies. There was nothing wrong with my post and everything about it is 100% true, game developers underfund or release a game before it is ready untested, if you'd stop being so googly eyed this game was paid for by many and was a disappointment because not enough polish went into it. Customers have the right to complain when a product is broken or unfinished.

Anyone else finding it extremely humerous that the guy says Demigod is a clean rip of DoTA Allstars, and then proceeds to say HoN(the game that didn't even bother creating their own models) is awesome?

Yeah and the other 'facts' are questionable at best, like 'only' 23% online players. If he knew the first thing about the gaming industry he would know that 23% is pretty good for an online game.
But why bother doing some research if you can post wild assumptions...

You see, some people think that stat tracking issues = netcode. Therefore, when people figure out they can abuse the stat tracking by disconnecting, the netcode is obviously ****. This is an unfortunate trend with people who think because they figured out HTML once, they are now networking gurus and expert programmers to boot.
The game engine is solid as a rock. The games netcode is quite good, just bandwidth heavy on the upstream (being p2p). Stat tracking is done outside of the game by Stardock and the very nature of p2p makes doing that in a bulletproof manner quite difficult. I hope they resolve that problem for all the stat whores out there, but it in no way affects the actual in game reliability.

I bought Demigod after most of the initial issues had been fixed (i.e. sometime around August) and while I have had some issues, it hasn't been any worse than any other game I have played. The game itself is very solid and the netcode isn't bad (no game will work well if people join who can't handle the number of players or have terrible internet speeds).
Thread needs a lock.

OP:
"They see me trollin'
They hatin'"
On a more serious note, the two main problems with Demigod are first that its launch was pretty crappy, and second that p2p matchmaking is a terrible idea.

OP makes valid points, just in the most douchey manner possible.

His points were invalid and wrong.
The game is not perfect.
Inferior to what? DOTA? At the end of the day it's still a fun game.

Who said anything about inferior? I'm the first to admit I like both HoN's items and maps better than Demigod's.

Nothing wrong with that position. RapierX is just trolling here.
