Try actually connecting and launching a successful demigod game.

I've probably wasted 8 hours of my time waiting for laggy connection screens in this game to fail. This is MOTHERFUCKING PATHETIC. I've played like 4 games with actual players.

Well, I have played 4 online games too so far. All of them on Hamachi. Ill wait until the connectivity is at least decently fixed before I waste more time on trying to join games. So far no successful connection via Impulse at all.

They are just setting up a new patch with lots of better error messages, the proxies for Europe are going up, lots of other stuff.

Connections seem a lot better now. Less 0ms pings and slightly faster connection times than last week.

I'm still kinda pissed about how long it takes to connect to people. Aren't Demigod and SupCom connections supposed to be made in the same way? I have no idea why Demigod takes 10x as long for each player to connect as in SupCom.

The patch improved things slightly. Now I sometimes can see another player I cant connect to and I was already kicked twice from a game. :?
Well, maybe next week...

I thought the point was the move connections through a central server to ELIMINATE nils and high pings, or something?

No, they double-fucked themselves on this one. They intended to use a service similar to Hamachi, but the servers get ****** just as badly. Then, they used P2P more similarly to Supreme Commander, but still needing a server. So if your connection is bad OR the server is ******, you can't play.

They are putting in proxies so that it will actually work as intended over this week.

It's still going to be P2P, but with these proxies in place we now have a quasi client/server fall back solution for players who fail to connect to each other. In theory this should mean that connections will eventually be more reliable than SupCom was as anyone who fails to directly connect will have a second chance through the proxies (dubbed reflection servers).

One part of the problem that hasn't been mentioned as much is how the tolerances were set in the actual game by GPG. In many instances they were set to low so the game gets tired of waiting for a player and boots them out (a player has left the game at launch syndrome). GPG just sent a patch over to Stardock for testing that improves these tolerances in many areas. Hopefully that has a significant impact as well.

In my home town, I can connect to every game just fine. In my home in vienna, I can't even connect to the NAT facilitator. It's an annoying, binary situation for me.

You ask for the impossible sir. It could work great for you, or you could be caught in a binary situation, as Spooky cleverly describes it

Have you considered buying now and learning how to play offline, and then going online next weekend when the MP is working? Seems like you'd be getting one heck of a running start that way. *shrug*

... why? The game is from GPG. The match making system etc. is from Stardock. Stardock facilitates the connections between the players.

Stardock is making a big deal about this system working, because they're going to be using it a lot in the future. If it was just GPG, why not just use the existing system with GPGNet?
