If you downloaded the mod from the GPGnet vault, it has been automatically installed to:
Code: %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Games\Gas Powered Games\SupremeCommander\Mods Code: %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Games\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance\Mods This is for SC and FA respectively. (SC will be omitted from further entries, just remove the Forged Alliance part in directory names) If you downloaded the mod from anywhere else such as the forums, check it for a readme file or check the download location for instructions. If none are present, follow the following steps: If the mod is in the .scd format (by default this opens in windows scheduler), drop the scd file in your gamedata folder. Code: Default path: C:\Program Files\THQ\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander - Forged Alliance\gamedata If the mod isn't an scd file then it should be installed to your Mods folder. Code: Default path:%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Games\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance\Mods
This includes but is not limited to unpacking rar files, running .exe installers, copy pasting files, etc
EDIT:
Due to recent events:
After installing the mod you need to turn it on in the ingame mod manager which can be accessed from the lobby>game options or via the extras menu.

I have a question about how to install mods.
When I install mods it doesnt work and i think its because of the format.
From what you say, you mention the format for SC in documents, first off mines in my hard drive so thats the first difference. Second when i go into gamedata there is no mod file it is a plain old document that u can't put stuff into. Can you help me figure this out?

Just for making a bit more clear for total noobs : pathes can be localized.
This is what I'm currently getting under Win XP with F.A. localized in French:
Code: C:\Documents and Settings\Manimal\Mes documents\My Games\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance\Mods In German this would look like this: Code: C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Manimal\Meine Dokumente\My Games\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance\Mods This goes the same with S.C. vanilla And there is another difference with F.A. localized in French : Code: C:\Documents and Settings\Manimal\Mes documents\Mes parties\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance\replays\Manimal which is in German : Code: C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Manimal\Meine Dokumente\Meine Spiele\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance\replays\Manimal
Note that this doesn't happen with SC vanilla

You can't put stuff in the gamedata folder or are you trying to put something inside mods.scd?
Also, go to gpgnet and download a mod from the vault, and see if that one works since it should be autoinstalled in the right spot.

Yeah but the second thing you showed was for replays and this is a thread about mods.
If you use %USERPROFILE% you can still browse the folders by hand as it will display the entire filepath.

woaaaa I need another coffee this morning XD
Some total noobs could be tempted to create a Mods folder by hand with the "My Games" path I pointed which is used for Replays, Savegames and Screenshots ONLY...

(see "total noobs" precision) as LD pointed out, whacking %USERPROFILE% into an address bar will take you there, AND show the full address path. ah, yes. i'm with you.
the pairing of a lack of a variable to games and the fact that the naming of it differs between localisations may stuff a few people over.
pity there's no Documents/My Documents variable either.

There was no existing Supreme Commander/Mods folder in /%userprofile%/My Games/Gas Powered Games. There was SupCom Forged Alliance, but none for vanilla. Also, when I try to launch the mod manager in Supcom, the game seems to quit responding...doesn't quite hang, but I don't get any buttons, screen is blank except for background.

just doubling checking; you wrote %USERPROFILE%\My Games\, where it should in fact be; %USERPROFILE\My Documents\My Games\.

Yeah, it was a typo, I did mean My Documents\My Games\Gas Powered...anyway, there was no Mods folder except under Forged Alliance, and the game seems to have a problem with the mod manager anyway.

You can create the mods folder yourself and there are no issue with the mod manager besides some mods not being able to use it because they have to be loaded at gamestart.

I meant my particular installation of the game seems to have an issue with the mod manager in general. Like I said, it pretty much hangs when I click the Extras/Mod Manager button, displays the background and that's it, no menu or anything. If I hit Esc enough times, I can quit the game, but that's it.
EDIT: Seems that v3280 has a problem, at least on my machine, with the mod manager. 3269 works fine.

Grr. >=( I'm having real trouble downloading several map packs and mods. Namely Quezalcoatl's map pack and the custom map pack in the FA discussion forum, and Blackops: Unleashed v2.1. You say that if we download them from the forums it should be in .scd format, but mine are always in .rar format, nor do I have a mods folder under Forged Alliances' folders when I try to save it.
Someone please help meh! =(

Well for the Blackops the SCD (or installer if you downloaded that) is probobly inside the rar file... rar is a format used by winrar and is an alternative to using .zip
As for not having a mods folder you can actually just create a folder called "mods" in that spot to put mods in
Dono what to say about the maps as I have never downloaded any lol.

First, Maps =/= Mods, so I'd check the Map forum for help with those.
Also, if your having problems with Blackops, hacve you tried posting in the BlackOps Thread???

If it doesn't exist, create it.
Path is the same regardless of Win OS, except "My Documents" is now just plain old "Documents" as of Vista/7.

When you click the download link it asks you to open or to save the rar file. Click save and browse to your desktop for example. Wait for the download to finish. Look at your desktop. Right click the .rar and unpack it to your mods folder. ?????? Profit.
