Will this ever happen?
I was disappointed that it was released only on the X360. I doubt that the PS3 couldn't handle it since the PC version depends a lot on the CPU and the ps3 has a powerful cpu.

I'd buy it for sure if it would be released to the PS3.

It sounds like porting PC to 360 is alot easier than PC to PS3.

Plus, PS3 costs so goddamn much you're better off spending as much on a decent PC. Gateway sells a quad-core 3g ram rig for $650. All you need is a decent vid card.

Yes, porting the game to the PS3 would be like... 10 times more effort than porting it to the XBox 360. It wouldn't be worth it.

This is one of the main reasons I got the XBOX 360...All the RTS games are on it...Is that the reason why they decided not to make C&C Red Alert 3 for the PS3...The only reason I might get a PS3 is if Socom becomes big

Well, at least a hypothetical PS3 version would probably have to be coded nearly from scratch for that platform, which mean it has a chance of being much more optimised. If the developers weren't lazy and knew what they were doing. Which is unlikely. :P

I am no programmer or game designer but in my opinion it all boils down to the choice of the Graphics Libraries used to create the original game (AKA Direct3d from DirectX vs OpenGL ). Software engineers in GPG decided that it would be cheaper or whatever to implement the game on Direct3d from MS than on OpenGL and now you are stuck with it. Since Direct3D is not supported on PS3 for obvious reasons porting SupCom to PS3 would be a pain in the butt. If interested read the following article:

I wouldn't expect it to be released on PS3.

Would be nice what with the std keyboard and mouse support straight up.

The reason why supcom 2 is on 360, is that there's no real porting between PC and 360 as the game dav software is exactly the same.

PS3 would need all the libs etc programmed up for the cell, not hard to do as it's all in C but would suck up some time.

it would require an entirely new rendering engine too; the Moho Engine draws with DirectX, and there's no DirectX API on the PS3.

It's a more complex issue than that, actually. Game developers often write their renderers in a proprietary API that compiles into a platform specific API. No doubt a lot of work would be required however the API is written, but it is difficult to accurately estimate how much.

Though I also suspect that rewriting the renderer would be the least of their worries.

Getting the engine to run on the PS3's cell processor is surely easier than it sounds, as the engine has already been shown to compile on a PPC-based processor. Getting it to run well however....

Since I've got a personal agenda to push for a Front Mission RTS developed by GPG, I'd say a fantasy scenario would be for S-E to pay for a package deal: SCom2 ported to PS3, and then Front Mission RTS multiplatform PC/PS3/360 :D
