Forged Alliance Knowledge Base:

Leaving this up here for now, but please visit our Forged Alliance Forums

Hey there, we’ve got a lot of information on Forged Alliance coming out now, so I wanted to get a post up that keeps track of it in one place and also allows us to make sure what is being said is actually what we are doing. I’ll be updating this as development continues. Posting on this thread will be locked to keep it from becoming crazy and hard to find info on. Thanks.

• FA is stand alone. This means you do not need SupCom to play it. It will include everything needed to play it’s campaign, as well as skirmish and multiplayer on GPGnet.
• Brand new faction, the Seraphim. Playable in skirmish and multiplayer.
• 110 new units, 10 per original faction including a new experimental for each and 80 Seraphim.
• New Multiplayer maps
• New campaign featuring 15-20 hours of gameplay.
• FA will not include the SupCom campaign.
• Completely new minimalist UI featuring four factional skins.
• New Airflight Dynamics (More realistic flight)
• Procedural sky domes for more immersion into the game world.
• DirectX 10 is not supported. We chose to use the time and resources to make the game more polished and fun for 100% of our fans than hit graphic tweaks that would affect a smaller number.
• FA is not Vista only.
• Balance has been changed quite a bit, making use of many new engine changes as well. We have been patching many of these changes into SupCom, but there will be many that we will not be able to do due to the engine side changes made for FA. That being said, many of the changes and tweaks you received in the last big patch were directly from FA code.
• Experimentals are faster and cheaper now. Balance is taking this into consideration when working on them.
• We will not be able to provide mod compatibility in FA for all SupCom mods.
• New memory allocation system in place.
• SupCom and FA will be on the same GPGnet servers; the community will not be split.
• There will be a new rating system for FA.
• GPGnet will seamlessly support you, whichever combination of the Supreme Commander games you have.
• Release date of November 2007.
• New Fog of War rendering system in place.
• Many of the old effects have been touched up or reworked as well as the addition of some really nice new effects (such as heat distortion on nukes as they fly).
• New sound system no longer being used due to risk and time issues.

We hate to change what we say, but this is one of the risks that comes with sharing info as early as we can. Things don't always work out as well as we hope, and this is one such time. In our opinion, keeping you guys informed is worth this risk, so we'll be continuing to share as much info as possible as we continue development.

• Base Template system implemented

Multiplayer support. This works as follows.
• If you have only FA and your opponent has only FA you can both play each other only as Seraphim.
• If you have only FA and your opponent has both FA and SupCom you can play only as Seraphim, and your opponent can play any of the four factions.
• If you both have FA and SupCom, you can both play any of the four factions.
• If you have FA and SupCom, and your opponent has only SupCom, you can play him using only the SupCom units and balance. This will basically run the vanilla SupCom exe, so you will be playing with SupCom balance, units, and UI, and also need to have vanilla SupCom installed.
• If you have only FA and your opponent has only SupCom, you can not play one another.

New info as of last posting

• Beta is about to begin. Dates will be posted soon, keep your eyes peeled.
• Beta key info can be found here.
• Skirmish will allow all 4 factions as playable, even if player only owns FA.
• There is one campaign to play through on FA. Depending on who you choose to play as you will get different missions than other factions, but there is not going to be a full separate campaign for every faction. (noticed some people talking about this so thought I'd make it clear)
Gamespot now has some previews with a lot of the new units listed. Feel free to take a look over there to see them.
