After the recent hotfix we've been getting a lot of reports of the 'verify system specifications' or 'verify system specifications and update video card drivers' on high end systems. Of course this is just a problem with the game.prefs file after the hotfix, your systems are fine!

Try this fix for screen flickering as well!

The solution to this is is to simply delete the game.prefs file.
You will find this file in:

For Windows XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Gas Powered Games\SupremeCommander\Game.prefs

This directory may be hidden by default. To unhide system directories for Windows XP, open a folder and click Tools > Folder Options > View > Uncheck "show hidden files and folders" and then press "Apply to All Folders."

For Windows Vista:

Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Gas Powered Games\SupremeCommander

The location may be different, depending on your specific machine configuration. Some users have reported success with deleting just the .prefs file, while others delete the entire directory contents for best results.

Do not mistake the /GasPowered directory for the correct one listed above. The /GasPowered directory is an old, unused directory, and while deleting it won't harm the game, it is not the correct, current file in use by Supreme Commander.

I have just installed. I have all the system requirements but the message still comes back: Please Verify System meets minimum specifications.
I have checked over and over but have all the right requirements. What should I do?

Post your system specifications.

Did you make a clean (re)install of your video drivers? Use driver cleaner in order to achieve that.
What resolution are you running?

// well you figured it out (halcyon) :)

I'm also getting the error. I have a widescreen (16:10) monitor at 1920x1200. It works fine if I put "/fullscreen 1920 1200" in the shortcut. It also works after I delete game.prefs, but then when I set the resolution back to native, it gives me the bad specs error again. Yes, my comp exceeds the minimum requirements and I have the latest nvidia drivers and directx9.

Hm... that's interesting. This one 's up for the developers :).
You could try deleting the Game.prefs, then start the game, exit it immediately (don't set your resolution in the options), then edit the Game.prefs manually to your resolution.

I've tried the game reinstall with new drivers(used driver cleaner). When i try to go and delete the game.prefs file there is no file. I followed the correct file directory and can see all my files but it seems that the game never creates one. Tried reinstalling again but the same thing, no game.prefs. I've tried deleteing the entire directory and allowing the game to recreate it but it will not create the file. I used a copy of a friends game.prefs and changed to match my system and when i run the game it marks the game.prefs as game.prefs.bad ...

Any ideas?

Are you sure you are looking in the right directory? There are two Application Data folders.

You need at least a vertical resolution of 768 pixel to run the game. However, this can be overruled... somehow. Either with /fullscreen 1280 720 or by editing the Game.prefs manually to that resolution (you would probably have to use the Game.prefs file of a friend and edit that one).

I tried the /fullscreen 1280 720 - no dice
I tried altering my friends game.prefs file:

uvd_format = 'full',
primary_adapter = '1280,720,60',

primary_adapter = {
default = '1280x720,60',
custom = {
states = {
{
text = '<LOC
OPTIONS_0070>Windowed',
key = 'windowed'
},
{
text = '1280x720(60)',
key = '1280x720,60'
},
{
text = '1024x768(60)',
key = '1024,768,60'
}, and so on and so forth

still wont work.

So, you really tried 1024x768 already? Hm... do you have any rotate function enabled in the driver? Did you try using /novalidate ? If you try again, be sure to remove the Game.prefs file again.

Your video card doesn't meet the minimum requirements. See here for a video card compatibility guide. You will be able to run SupCom using the /novalidate argument.
