Using the latest update (steam) and drivers, also tried "Solutions to common SC2 problems".
During the first and half of the second campaign the game froze randomly, forcing me to do an hard reset (Ctrl-Alt-Del didn't work). My real problem is with campaign 2.4, it freezes all the time, takes only 10-40sec, far from playable.
'Freezing' in more detail - The screen goes black. Sound is stuck on a loop (very short segment). HDD is still working. OS is unresponsive.
Thanks, Ariel.

Are you overclocking anything? You seem to be using a laptop, so that's unlikely, but I've had problems with the game randomly freezing up due to high video card overclocks.

Thanks for the replay, I'm not over-clocking anything.

The hard reset without any recovery to desktop strongly suggests a hardware failure of some kind in Win7. Although drivers *can* do this, your description suggests it could be heat related.
Make sure your vents are clean and clear of obstructions, maybe even prop it above the surface you normally play on, and see if you perhaps make it a bit further into the problematic mission. If it makes it say, 2 or 3 minutes in before failure, then it isn't triggered by a particular map or effect, but rather a cumulative heat buildup on specifically your video card, but more generally your system from many things together.

The computer is elevated as it can get very hot, I tied playing with the AC on and with an additional fan cooling the computer surface. Note that I played many games on this laptop, and as hot as it gets it never froze. Since there is no easy way to upload a photo to the forum I am attaching the raw data from RealTemp v3.40: (that show the computer froze EVEN when its "cold", as I seen it working fine also at 92deg) DATE,TIME,MHz,CPU_0,CPU_1,GPU,LOAD%

I am "Using the latest update (steam)" but the problem started more then a week ago, before the update was released.
btw, playing at the max res (1980x1200) and effect OR playing at low res and lowest setting still causes the freeze.

No I didn't, and I won't. I wasted too much time over this. As much as I like the game I can't devote more time messing around. The game is simply no fun if I need to do a reboot every few minutes.
I really did want to help you find the problem, but there is no real customer support from GPG nor the publisher (have an open ticket there as well).

Hy Taffin,
To be honest i don't think they have come across anything like this at all.
All i can think of is that steam has ****** up some of sc2 files and that whats making your game crash

I can understand its a "new" problem and even if they don't have a clue how to fix it they shouldn't just copy-paste suggestions, while ignoring my description.
As a developer myself I hate those vague "It doesn't work", so I tried to put an effort and help you, as much as I can. but I get the feeling GPG can't at the moment help, which is fine, just call it as it is instead of wasting both of our time.
If you really believe a reinstall will help: 1. How do I enable all of the campaigns, as I don't want to do them again.. 2. Do I need to redownload the game from steam or is there an easier way (DL at 750kbps...)
Else: Find an original way to compensate for the frustration and the fact the game doesn't work (for me)...
Regards, Ariel.

I understand where your comin form hopefully they might have better answers than me. tanffn wrote: 1. How do I enable all of the campaigns, as I don't want to do them again..
I have no idea i have had a look round and i can't see anywhere where it stores that information tanffn wrote: 2. You could try verify integrity of game cache if that fails the only think i can suggest is a full download but if u got dvd install of that since it will save u a lot of time for downloading. Maybe servo comes back with a better answer. Have you tried doing the compatibility mode on it?

Sorry that the voodoo of troubeshooting has you down, but we do appreciate your effort to try and find the root of the problem, as it could help others with similar problems.
At this point the only simple thing I can think of to try is to temporarily disable the in-game Steam UI overlay. It is plausible that the overlay is putting too much extra pressure on your hardware while the game is running.
This can be done from the Steam Library by right-clicking Supreme Commander 2 > Properties > General Tab > Uncheck "Enable Steam Community In-Game".

Sorry for the late reply, been busy and the game lost “its fun factor..”. Sadly non of the suggestions resolved the problem. I do know it has something to do with NVidia driver crashing (report from windows 7) and it might in did has to do something with the heat. *BUT* the game failed several times when the GPU and CPU were warmish (~60-70 Celsius) yet when I play other games the freeze never occurred and the processors are get scary hot (stabilizes at around 102(!) Celsius) Bottom line, it might be an hardware problem but from some reason it affects only your game (and I played several GPU demanding games). I give up... I rise my last proposal again.

Yo tanffn.
I'm having the same problem. It's that level where you first get the ... something or other temple. You're on some rocky platforms and they have this science facility you're supposed to destroy... yeah, I had the same problems.
And here are my thoughts...
People who are talking about it being about overclocking and overheat... I don't think they're on the money. Why? I had this problem only ever on that level, and all others (so far) continue to run fine, as do other games.
I also noticed that, in general, the glitch came about a lot more often if I had parts of the enemy base on my screen. There's a mountain with some buildings on it and some green flags. I thought it was that, but it seemed to be other places on the enemy base too.
My conclusion is that somehow perhaps the device context is being lost. As I recall, ctrl-alt-del does cause a reacquisiton of the device context, so the game works again for another few minutes (or seconds in some cases). I think this is a problem on their part (GPG that is). I don't think messing around with your PC will change matters too much, but if that's what you choose to do, please post here and I will be interested to see if it works.

Hi TexMurphy, I was able to resolve the problem by underclocking the GPU (to about 40% of the original speed), that resolved the problem for me.
Though I have to mention the problem is only with SupCom2.
