Hi everyone, I registered specifically to announce this problem to the world....I never played SC1, altho I will be attempting to soon, however, I do have SC2, and here is where the problem starts...I am running on an ASUS laptop (omg laptop gaming TEH SUXXORZ@!), its a Core i5, windows 7 x64, it has 8gb of ram and plenty of hdd space...its two cores are running two threads each, so its emulating 4 cores....I installed the game fine, played tutorial, got through the first tutorial no problem...on the second tutorial, the game froze up, i could still move the mouse, but i could not select anything, and I had to CTRL+ALT+DLT to my task manager in order to end the application....i thought it was a fluke at first, but then it happened again during a skirmish mission i was playing to test the waters...before my RAGE got OVER 9000, i figured i'd check the web, because I know if it happened to me, it damn sure happened to someone else out there...and i stumbled across forums like this, read about the SC series's dark past with memory leakage and AI threading dead units and so on and so forth, well anywho, i found Madboris's thread about SC2 being x86 and capping out at 2gb of memory, so i found a program which increased the cap to 4gb supposedly, ran it, and it said ALL GREEN....right, right? WRONG. while playing through again the game froze, i was baffled, how could this not have worked? So i decided to open up my task manager and window the game so i could monitor the action (btw, my laptop can run the game on high settings with little to no slowdown, except for this godawful problem).....anywho, back to my narrative. As i played through a simple 2v2 mission, i noticed the memory usage of the game climbing...130,000kb or so on the menu, then up and up and up, as each second ticked by the game ate more and more, it wasn't long until i had used over 1,000,000kb, and soon i had reached 2,000,000....when i passed that, i knew that the 4gb patch must have worked, but heres the prob, the memory usage didnt stop..it just kept on climbing up and up until it hit the wall...at around 3.5gb or so, and then the game pulled a Frieza on me and, well, froze again, once again requiring a CTRL+ALT+DLT.....can anyone shed some light on this issue? is there a memory leak with this game too, despite peoples' claims to the contrary? IS it my lack of dedicated video card causing the game to grab more and more memory until it can grab no moar? Please read this, someone knowlegeable, because it seems that GPG has gone the route of more and more developers nowadays 1)pump out buggy product, 2)patch product once to pacify the masses, 3)never attempt to fix product again, 4)rinse and repeat.

Being able to move the mouse, but not have anything move in-game sounds like a Sim-Lock - though your description really does describe a memory leak.
I would suggest updating both your graphics and sound drivers (make backups and take precautions, etc). The lack of similar reports specifically for SC2 makes me think it's your computer.

It is definitely wierd, considering i just installed FA and hopped into an 8 player, 1000 unit, 81km x 81km skirmish with high graphics settings......the game seems to be stable around 150000kb or so, but im not that deep into the fight yet, but in no way does it reflect SC2's habit of RAM just climbing and climbing until it maxes out, and yes, i used the 4gb enabler on both these games...what is this sim lock you speak of?

Sim-lock is where the simulation thread (all the code that governs unit logic and behaviour) dies or is stuck in a loop. The renderer and the UI are kept separate from the sim. thread, so they (for the most part) keep working.

Ok, now I'm pretty sure its the game, not my computer..I just played through Mission 1 of FA last night (**** took two hours turtling lol), and the game didn't freeze once, and yeah. there was a lot of stuff going on, units, map expansion, mega cannon, death beams, etc.....

The 4GB patch does nothing on SupCom2, it is already large address aware, afaik. Did you update DirectX 9.0c to the latest version yet? And as BM said, are your drivers up to date (especially GPU)?

Probably not. Have you tried a clean redownload and reinstallation of the game? Btw., you should use line breaks and paragraphs, especially in long posts .

Yeah the mad boris tool was never made for SC2. liveordie wrote: FIX: don't use a laptop for gaming even if its a i5 a i5 in a laptop isn't much faster than a 6 year old dual core in a pc. Normally this would be valid but the whole ethos of SC2 was that it could run on really old hardware, so it should run fine on his laptop.

what normal gamer will be playing on a laptop? This game needs a desktop PC. This is not a browser game.
