I just logged into Steam a few seconds ago and got another SupCom 2 update... strange, as I had one (the main one) at the weekend. Might this be new I wonder?
Edit: Yes it is!
Quote: Updates to Supreme Commander 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:
Bug Fixes and Improvements — Ghost lobbies: Fixes issue when player cancels join game in multi-player lobby causing an un-joinable ghost game to persist — Saved games no longer reference Steam nickname: Prevents issue where players who changed their nicknames after saves were no longer able to see their saved games. Does not inoculate existing saves made prior to this fix — Replay crash: Fix for low-repro issue of replays crashing when loading in twice
Coming Soon — Ranked games and custom skill match-up games coming soon

I have a question: I heard that in SupCom 2 you cannot save during SP skirmish game is that true ?? (seriously - I thought that saveable skirmish is standard for modern RTS, it's not middle ages anymore).

It's true but we're not sure yet if it will be patched in again.

I've added SupComTalk, Future of RTS and Gamenubs to the site links already.

If you were to move the dev post section to the top of the post it might make it easier for more people to get the most current info.
Videos and articles and interviews are cool, but they're not necessarily as time-sensitive as a useful GPG post buried inside a thread in the forums. So for this reason, I would personally enjoy seeing those Dev post links at the top. Thoughts?

Dev posts are already on top in the "content overview" but yeah, I've put "game information" and "recently added" first and you have to scroll before reaching the dev posts. I could focus more on the posts themselves and start putting their quotes in this thread (and in "recently added") but it's gonna fill very soon that way.

For the Developer Post Tracking section, MCS500 metamorphosed from regular Steam forum member to Forum Moderator wearing a Gas Powered Games tag yesterday. Then he deleted a topic about how to unlock the bonus maps and started posting info about an upcoming patch. Here's the post tracker URL for MCS500: Find all posts by MCS500[Pretty sure you need a Steam forum ID to use their forum search.] The forum change borked the dev post trackers for this site. Just takes you to the generic search UI instead of search results for an individual GPG dev. Here are new forum format links for some of the GPG folks: sorianstevebtotonkaGPG-ServoEricgpgITninja

Thx Aesir, updated search links, added Steam forum stuff and such. Also, something's coming I guess: * [ 05/29/10] Several signs are pointing towards a large update for SupCom 2 in the near future, especially if you have been following the Twitter page of SE producer Dave Hoffman: - "Working on getting the pre order maps released!" May 29th - "Big and juicy patch for Supreme Commander 2 almost ready to release. Something fans have wanted since launch!!!" May 28th - "All this work is going to pay off. Big news for Supreme Commander 2 fans in the near future!" May 15th (E3 announcement of an addon perhaps?)

Im guessing mod tools are available to keep the game rolling right after the discount for steam. I dont think the community wants anything else from the start except modding.

You might want to update this thread with the info in this thread. Servo says that there are "Three possible things that could be classified as 'extremely awesome'

Since we have skirmish saves now I can only guess at what the next "big" thing for SupCom 2 is going to be, Dave Hoffman already knows. "Media blast", that sounds like it involves something actually new. I can't imagine that this is going to be about the pre-order maps or the long-awaited Xbox360 patch. Addon, free content (bigger maps) and/or map editor/mod tools pls.

I wouldn't mind if it's paid DLC.

the problem with paying for DLC is that there's always a chance that it was made beforehand and cut from release for whatever reason.
from the developer's point of view, if you make something; it costs money. even if it's not shipped, it costs you money. now assume that you've dropped something from a title; you still have to integrate the costs of that into what you make from sales of the original title. now, from the consumer's point of view; you're paying for something you didn't get. that's not an issue in itself, as the developer usually drops something with the intention that leaving it out makes the game better, not worse.
it only becomes an issue for the consumer if the developer later on decides to do a double-take and use something that was dropped from release... something that the consumer has paid for... and sells it to the consumer again.
I'm perfectly fine with paying for content that was created after release, but I'd be pretty jaded if I was sold something twice. The gaming industry has seen shenanigans like this happen before, so there is a precedent. How do we know what was made before, and what wasn't? There's no transparency, so we have to take it on faith from the developer.
That's why I'm naturally critical of paid DLC. Free DLC isn't a problem because if it was dropped from release; I've paid for it, and am only getting it a bit later... it's added value for money. If it's new content, then I haven't paid for it, and am still getting extra value for money.
