Just stop with the fail that was demigod, theres plenty of better alternatives.... lol, dota, dota2 on the way, etc
Oh and how'd the xbox port of supcom2 sell for you? Worth comprimising the game for? If your gonna troll SupCom 2, at least have the courtesy of doing it in the correct forum.

How enlightened. So what do you want to see instead? Got something constructive to say?

It's unfortunate that so many companies are going for "paid map packs" over mod tools.
We'll never know if the mod tools would have made Supcom2 sell enough better to justify the revenue lost from DLC1.

We'll never know if the mod tools would have made Supcom2 sell enough better to justify the revenue lost from DLC1. That would arguably depend on how the quality of both would stake up, but at the same time I don't think it would have OVERLY affected DLC sales, because as much as some people would rather play mods than buy GPG Content, there are also those that Prefer GPG content over mods, for reasons like ranked and such. Its hard to say which way it would go. Mike

I can only see increased functionality improving sales and longevity. Mod tools have only made it more likely I will purchase DLC, as i'm still playing the game!

There's no reason to be rude or a prick to people. In all my time arguing over the differences between FA and Sup2, I never stooped so low as to use vulgarities towards people.
Seriously, Ed, grow up.

Mods don't sell games dudes, quit talking about that like it's a real thing. I'd love modding in SC2 as much as anyone, but it's not a selling point when 95%+ of the people who bought FA never downloaded a mod. Marketing a game towards a casual audience is actually a pretty good business decision-- although encouraging a hardcore competitive scene has also been shown to generate lots of positive press and drive sales to some extent, and they did drop the ball on that one.

Is the era of the Counterstrikes, DoTAs, and Teamfortresses over?
Is it now impossible for a single mod to become a popular game in its own right, and drive sales of its host game?

Where did you get your stats that less than 5% of FA customers downloaded a mod. That information is pretty difficult to collect. Do you even know how many copies of FA sold? Considering 4th dimension was downloaded over 15k times from just one source, and it was one of MANY mods, I suspect you just made that up. http://www.moddb.com/mods/4th-dimension-fa/downloads

I have downloaded 4thD over 10 times for different versions and different computers. That 15k download record is almost meaningless.
Mods could potentially destroy DLC sales since the content of the DLC could be modded into the base game. I bought a friend Empire: Total War and he refused to buy the DLC, saying that someone would just mod those new units into the game. If a DLC pack for FA came out with 4 new units, I'm pretty sure some modder would buy the DLC, extract the unit files, then release those units as a mod. With the modding support of FA, it wouldn't be that hard.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/4th-dimension-fa/downloads We can only make guesses based on FA PlayerTrack (he has taken away the general statistics though), the SupCom/FA Stats and the fact that on average only 20% of all customers every even try to play online.
