mircotransactions for a RTS game would be hard. I think it works for RPG (wow, or eve ect) cause they are online persistent games. It is starting to look like KnC is planned to have game-changing items (which was hinted at before), and I guess these items would be dropped as victory loots or could be bought online. Interesting idea but as seen above, it may seem foreign to some RTS players... that is until they grown attach to their online persona as a RTS player. People loves status symbols and show off their blings...
Let see if this is the case...

Count me out. And right when I thought GPG was going to make a perfect game... However, the one good thing I see about this, is that it means that the base game will likely cost less that 50$----->a higher playerbase I wonder what each monarch does? Is it like unique bonuses/faction? And are the microtransactions for buying those creeps, or amulets or whatever? WE DEMAND A VIDEOBLOG ON THIS!

I take it they are doing something like Civ 5. Full game comes out, plays fine, and they keep working on new monarchs whom you can purchase upon completion to have another faction/monarch to play with if you so wish.
If it is like that, I see no problem.
But like BM said, don't jump the dick so quick. We don't know anything at all yet.

Yeah, I shouldn't have concluded that this meant Korean MMO style microtransactions.
But I'm a real, "give me the base game and an expansion pack" kind of guy. None of this online funky business.
I think the additional monarchs are just different heroes for your faction. Which is annoying and gimmicky but I suppose not that big of a deal.

I'm not sure we should be too surprised about this, Considering GPG still seems to be lacking a publisher and isn't exact bathing in cash a la Blizzard, this is something they might have to be seriously considering to make sure the game turns out like they've envisioned.
Also its not an immediate death sentence either, if the base game has sufficient content for it's cost and the purchase able content is just new factions/subfactions and are properlly balanced there wouldn't really be an issue with splitting the community or paying for an advantage right?
I too will wait until we know more, interviews and such are always kind of dodgy imo as CT doesn't quite get to have his final say, maybe he said "Micro Transactions" but it means something slightly diff in context to KnC or something.

OrangeKnight wrote: Considering GPG still seems to be lacking a publisher Mike Why do they lack? CT stated from the very beginning of K&C that they will develop this game on their own and will seek new ways to sell the game. Thats also the reason why they chose Steam for SC2. CT also said that they will distribute the game over Steam only.

This is quite old news to be honest as CT already said something like this in a video interview of GamesCom. Quoting myself from the overview thread: Quote: * [08/24/2010] CT talks about DS3 but also about KaC in this video interview from GamesCom at the MediaXP booth, he says GPG will release a lot of new Monarchs after the release of KaC, he speaks of a number of 10 to 12. There are probably three months of pre-production left, shipping date is likely 2012. A co-op campaign mode is mentioned, new game modes are teased, including the one where you can control allied units from another player. There is an interest in Demigod 2. Much will depend on pricing, availability (not everyone can pay online or even wants to), how much it will effect balance and how the core game will turn out.

Ive seen an old interview where CT was planning to have around 5 "factions"
I do not know if the monarchs would add a complete new faction to the game, maybe they just add a monarch and a couple of new units/abilities?
Microtransactions?
hmmm... I dont know what to think about the idea yet...
Almost seems that if new monarchs add just a single king or few units, they are the microtransactions themselves..

Multiple releases do not bother me. I am very happy with the DLC. If we get more content like missions, mini-games, story, and training tutorials that's cool too.

keep releasing OP monarchs, that way all the powergamers are sure to buy up each new release. just before the next release, balance all the released ones.
