Nice chapter Dagonian. Quite the dark story. With any luck, it's the darkness before the dawn. Conditions are grim, but I'm hopeful. I can't help but think that Danko's part in this story isn't quite finished. As for Nathan, all I can say is: that's one hardassed SOB. He's come back from adversity before, hopefully he will again. C'est la guerre, c'est la vie.

You are completely right and it's been fixed. Must have been thinking too much of him when I wrote it and-- And-- Ah screw it! I messed up, I admit it. Nobody's perfect.

Description:
The Ultimate TDF experimental that can be constructed under regular circumstances. After a series of major breakthroughs in mass extraction technologies, the TDF ordered the designing of a unit that went beyond the normal cost limits of previous experimental class units. The result was the Crimson and this Crimson A2 version (the difference being the addition of a powerful shield generator), units of unequalled size and firepower.

The main weaponry consists of two massive double barrel artillery pieces sitting on the side platforms. If the user is so inclined it can fire a variety of ammunition types, ranging from airburst ammunition to napalm shells which ignite everything within a large radius. The default and most often used ammunition consists of tactical nuclear warheads similar to those used by high end UEF units, though of a far higher calibre. It's main secondary armament consists of two large double barrel DeltaWave lasers and the numerous high calibre flak cannons on top.

Compared to the offensive experimental units of the other factions the Crimson is superior in nearly every aspect. It's offensive firepower is unparalleled and on the defensive front it's powerful shield and armour can each stand up to at least one direct hit from nuclear weapons. This comes at the cost of a very hefty price-tag, absorbing enough mass and energy to build entire bases for other factions plus experimentals. As far as manoeuvrability is concerned it possesses a surprisingly small turning circle when cornering at top speed, which in itself is higher than that of several other experimental units. It's acceleration, however, is best described as lazy.

As an assault unit it is most adapt at attacking hard targets such as bases and other experimental units, most of which can't stand up to more than one or two salvo's. At short range some commanders have been able to hit large air targets with the artillery as well, Aeon CZAR units in particular. Due to it's slower rate of fire and minimum range it is much harder for a Crimson to attack non experimental ground targets with it's artillery. Small units can often evade hits if managed properly. However, at short range the DeltaWave lasers and comparatively tiny Gatling cannons take over.

Due to it's cost and the fact that in smaller operations regular heavy artillery or even simple bombers can often perform the same tasks, even the TDF currently finds only limited use for Crimsons. It is in large scale operations that it really shines however, with it's ability to manoeuvre heavy artillery support to any location and defend itself from nearly any threat.

It is currently seeing limited deployment with TDF forces during intermittent skirmishes with other factions. It sees heavier use during training exercises and simulations. Predictions indicate that if a large scale conflict were to break out between the Diamond Spear and one or more of the other factions, the Crimson would play a much greater role than it does now.

Yeah, lots of Dakka in that thing. This model has a great deal less clipping than the Grizzly, which is nice. It's the result of going way overboard with adding secondary weapons to a unit, something which seems to plague many of the people over in the modding department. *Cough * Juggernaut *Cough* Basilisk *Cough* Not that I dislike loads of weapons, though.

Now guess which unit is going to play an important role in the next chapter.

[Edit] I originally intended to add a size comparison including this, the Grizzly and a Galactic Colossus, but for some reason my Max isn't playing nice with the SupCom importer/exporter anymore, even though I'm pretty sure it used to in the past. So, just imagine the Grizzly as being about 3/4 the height of a GC and the GC being about 3/4 the height of a Crimson. That makes the Crimson way, way wider and way way WAY heavier

Chapter 67: Counterattack is up!

This is the epilogue for this episode and I'm quite confident that the sequel hook is pretty obvious. The next episode (at least what I have in mind now) will obviously contain the sequel to this one, but also two completely unrelated story arcs. As far as when episode 6 will actually be written, I'm not sure. First I'll redo episode 1 thoroughly, and maybe episode 2 as well. And by thoroughly I don't mean just a good spell-checking, I mean completely rewriting them. So don't expect anything until that's done.

That's not to say I'm not going to continue at some point in the future, it's just going to take bit.

Very excellent ending. You leave plenty of room to continue the story. I'm looking forward to you doing the rewrite. When it's done, I think I'll sit down and read it all at once. That way I can get the full impact. After that I'll be looking forward to the next part of the saga.

Well, the Aeon used what was a pretty much sound tactic.

Gather all their Commanders together, pack them into a resource-rich area supported by mass fabs and of course energy farms, and do a ridiculously large fortress.

the only problem is that if they tried it for more than three days and succeed in surviving, more or less, that long, Barret is going to come up with the bright idea of building a couple Purgatories, and since the Aeon are stonwalling there could be like 20 Cybran commanders per side sieging them, with massive air fleets, ground armies, and a single commander per flank building a Purgatory with all the energy the whole flank has to muster. The flanks that are slower will recieve economy boost from the faster flanks once they finish, and together the four Purgatories will carpet-bomb the Aeon back to the Stone Age.

Also, that other Artillery, the strategic one that you mentioned eariler, I think it was the Carnal or something similar, could also be delopyed, but in much greater numbers, for base demolishing and defense (though regular T3 Arty can do that...)

What do you think? The Aeon gonna stonewall? If they do, they're dead...

I checked the site several times but last time they still didn't have a SupCom section yet. They do have a general game section for everything that doesn't have it's own, but I fear it would just get lost in a vast sea of other fics that have little in common.

As for the rest of your post. . . The Aeon gathered on one planet, yes, but I mentioned little of the rest of their tactics. Since they had no quantum network it would be impossible for them to communicate easily if they were spread over several planets. That problem is solved by sticking them all on the same planet. A planet is a rather large place, though. Plenty of room for pilots to play cat and mouse on a planet even if there are a lot of them, amongst a host of other tactics.

I think it was pretty clear that Barret quite handily outclasses Samin on a strategic level, so in the long run it wouldn't make too much of a difference. As long as there is no outside interference of course. . .

I know there isn't a SupCom section yet on fanfiction.net

They don't put a section up until it's either got a lot of fics with the name of the game/book/movie in the description, or there's a couple of EPIC fics (guess who I'm looking at right now...) over 100,000 words attributed to the section.

This would be an excellent way to get the admin to sit up and take notice, and of course for them to finally get off their butts and create a SupCom section, just for the sheer awesomeness of this fic, and then... other authors will start posting fics there too.

In other words, no one's gonna do something until someone else does, with a top-of-the-line fanfic I believe YOU can bust this deadlock.

Just a suggestion, because this fic is too good not to be posted EVERYWHERE!

Not really, I'm afraid. I've sorta moved on to other things (like getting my freaking life back on some sort of track), and Supcom hasn't really been on my mind much either. It's a shame really, cause I had fun writing this. I do hope to go back to writing in some way, but if I do it probably won't be fanfiction (got too many ideas for original fiction swirling around in my head for that).

I've not been to gpgnet for a long while and I must say it's a bit sad to see that there is hardly anything new to add to the fanfiction index. Aside from ol' dots and Plasma this place is all but dead.


Heh, heh, guess I fell for that myself. Oh well, there's been fan fiction that was resumed after way longer than 3 months.
