I'd do it. In fact we wouldn't be having this problem if you guys didn't go berserk last time they accidentally made me global mod ;D

I believe I never went berserk in any case.

Anyway, a global mod with responsibility would do very well. It really takes care of those spambot things all over the forum, but he would need ban power I think.

Moderator without banning power is not a moderator imo. How is he going to get rid of the spambots? Ask them nicely to leave?

WEll its not that they don't get banned, it just isn't all that quick, and while reporting makes it clear as day who need to get it, it just doesn't happen fast enough.

But if I could AT LEAST move the spam bot threads to somewhere they do no harm, until someone comes along to ban them, that'd be fine at least.

Well Orange, if I'm on MSN when there's a spam thread in mod talk just let me know and move it to SC GD and I'll move it to the moderator forum. Best we can do for now, unfortunately.

Yes, and that's just ridiculous.

Same goes for trolls and the like. If you don't trust your moderators enough to give them the tools they need to keep order you can't complain if a forum is overrun by people who give flying fvck about the rules.

But even if I could ban, that's not going to stop the threads from being posted, and once a bot is done it's initial postings I haven't seen one come back and make more in the time it takes for an admin to come around to ban them, so just having a global mod who can at least move the spam threads should work just as well as one who could ban in the long run.

I vote to give Mike more privileges. I just feel his steady professionalism is well worth investing responsibility in.

Peace

I vote for an "entirely new person". Meaning, a GPG employee that doesn't have any other job but to moderate the forums. (Or me, if I really have to. ;D)

my vote would be to give Mike more power. He has done a very good job so far, and I feel that his current powers are limiting his potential =p

Id say, let the tiger out of its cage! =p

I don't know if Orange is around enough to counter day and night spambots. You'd probably do better to give more people less power in the form of post deletion/moving if you wanted to keep them supressed. Also I support funky for global mod if only so we see more of his image file

This forum's power by phpBB, which has like, a million different mods and plugins, I'm sure someone's made a reCAPTCHA mod or something. I guess ultimately the time it would take to install and test something like that probably isn't worth it for GPG, but these spam bots really are getting annoying. Is there any kind of CAPTCHA system in place at the moment?

Yes. I presume the bots are just smart enough to keep trying till they get it right however.

GPG just could implement my idea for registration.

Sorry guys, I'm looking into this now, I've re-enabled the re-captcha plugin, but iirc that was actually easier to break for the botters when we first moved over to the new forums.

I'll keep an eye on it to see if it seems to help any.

If you can't find porn on the internet, then your searching skills are severely lacking.
