I never played the original but I have a couple of mates who are super excited for this.
Feedback is there are some serious bugs still, but it looks spectacular and plays with the same feel as the original.

Yeah the enemy carrier AI is completely fucked, sometimes it just leroy jenkins straight at you then either you die or it dies, either way its the end of the game.
Sometimes though it DOES disengage and runs away and it looks epic where you have an air battle, a sea battle and 2 capital ships duelling.
It definitely has the same feel as the original, the enemy carrier has the same feeling of dread like you dont know where it is until it attacks and then it's like oh shit!
Everything is improved on the original too (for once) beach assaults look awesome, especially at night the lighting looks great.

Theres a big island chain, you control an aircraft carrier, enemy does the same.
Carrier holds 4 amphibious tanks that can drop buildings on islands + 4 multi role aircraft.
You both start with 1 island each and expand outwards.
You build 3 types of islands, resource (mining) industry (production) defence (durrr)
The islands are connected through chains so you need to keep supply lines intact, for example if theres a hub it forms a chokepoint, obviously you want a defence island there.
Basically you need to either destroy the enemy carrier, cut it off from supply so it runs out of fuel and is stranded or take all the islands.
In the late 80's it was fully 3d and was years ahead of its time
