Im going to pick a f2p DoTA game to start getting into with a friend. I liked demigod a lot, but thats obviously not a choice because of the lack of the community and updates. I've been looking into Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends. I really enjoyed Savage and Savage 2 from HoN creators, so I was thinking that one. But does LoL have something better over it? I'm not impressed with cartooney graphics a la DoTA and WarcraftIII, that's why I liked Demigod better. Do both have that?
And, there is kind of an RPG system for both of them, right? As in, after playing so much your characters level up permanently or something of the sort?

I introduced Demigod at a recent LAN party. The folks who came commented on the remarkable similarity in style between Demigod and LoL, but ended up saying how they actually enjoyed playing Demigod better, even after having played a ton of LoL.

They're both f2p, why don't you just try each and see which one you prefer?

What z320 said. They're basically entirely different games at this point so might as well try both and pick a favorite. Or play whichever one when y ou feel like each one's style of MOBA gameplay.

I downloaded HoN and played one game. The nine other people I played with were such massive intergalactic thundercunts I quit halfway through and immediately uninstalled it.
League of Legends may be filled with tossers, but Heroes of Newerth is a hundred times worse. I would recommend LoL.

Around 25 mins I think or 35 (I can't remember) I was at 5/5/3 and 118 CS. I wanted to farm a fat wave and an Ashe got their after me and took most of the creeps with 4/4/8 and 15# CS. Called me a noob and some other shit. 20 mins later when we finally win, they're like 6/10/16 and I'm 12/6/12 and I'm the idiot noob failure

HoN is more terrible than LoL. That being said, there's plenty of retards on LoL to compensate.

It's not a problem, but I like that S2 Games uses OpenGL and not reliant on windows hardware, as all games should be (not relying on any single technology from a specific OS).

why the **** do people get pissed over me being a noob even if the game title says "Noobs/retards" ? are I not one of them?
So I didnt have enough gold to buy some damn movement boots, so I sold all of my stuff to get them. How does that make it gg?
HoN btw.
This is exactly why I don't normally play DoTA/Demigod/anything of the sort. People are too pissy

League is about a million times more active than HoN now also. Last I knew HoN was pretty much in it's death throes.
I've never played HoN but I play LoL far too much for it to be healthy and it's just such a fun game.

And Riot is actually a pretty boss company. New champ + content and balance patch every 2 weeks and they're pretty understanding to their playerbase.
Just yesterday I got a full refund on a bunch of champs and skins I bought from the online store and didn't like.
I'm personally on the side of LoL. HoN just wasn't really what I was looking for in a moba but to each their own. As far as I'm conerned the communities among the 2 are comperably terrible.

From different forums, I've noticed that, the more competition-oriented a game is, the more it attracts arrseholes in its forums.
But the more casual-friendly and social the game is, the more it attracts the simpleminded and women.
Games like SupCom seem to attract the right kind of people. I guess the more technical and mod-friendly a game is, the more it attracts software and engineery types hah.

There are so many interface issues and there's still no built-in replay system. In many ways this game doesn't act like the A-list title that it really ought to be given the number of players.

moreso than interface issues, there's bugs and problems with specific champions that've existed since beta and still haven't been fixed (malphites ult, anyone?)

The HoN community are a bunch of stuck up faggots who think they're sweet because they still live with their mom. LoL is filled with retards but fun every now and then. Your choice, I think most people agree with this generalization

What bug is this? Sometimes his ult will straightup shoot a blank. He'll dash to the targetted location but not apply the damage or knockup effect to any target within the vacinity. It happens frequently, if you play him you'll notice happen usually about once per game (more if the game lasts long). I remember seeing it happen in a pro-game last week and it cost the malphite player's team a dragon (and as a result, the game). It's been around since malphite was introduced in the beta, and riot is well aware it exists, but no word on an intended fix ever.

^ that.... Really sucks
Also, from what I know, Riot is a great company that really cares about it's community (And has done the best job possible with a MOBA game, which naturally fosters the blame game and scapegoating), whereas S2 games are a bunch of money-grubbing assholes that go back on promises they made to scrape a bit more cash out of their playerbase before they inevitably go under. Also lol is easier to learn and play. But maybe has less "depth" than other games.
