Best passive in the game is Teemo's hidden passive: it's a global taunt that enrages all enemy players for the entire duration of the game, and makes them target you at every opportunity. It also works on teammates. =<

Definitely do the extended tutorial, it will teach you boatloads, and it is very well thought out, you won't regret it.

Try playing in Windowed mode, it might be mildly annoying but it's also possible it will fix your issues.

If you're looking at someone who can rock mid hard against nearly anyone, with ease, Katarina still wrecks. If you want someone who can eat up a side lane, Pantheon is your man. There have been more complex champions than Garen to learn (The most complex he really gets is when you flash to silence them, then press E.)

Harder champions include Anivia, and Nidalee.

Well panth has nerfs incoming so don't spend anything on him just yet, he's only gonna be lolfaceroll for a few more days. And kat, outside of pubstomps and aforementioned mid domination, fails horribly if the teammate has ether a) a little brains or b) a low cooldown stun. :/

Kat is fun, but she shouldn't be priority for a newbie imo.

Although teemo is always a good choice if you ask me. He is just fun as **** to play.

Katarina works best on a team that has Morgana. The CC shield means a lot before you get your Banshee. In any case, you have to remember that while playing Katarina, your main job, is annihilating the christ out of their mid. Your goal in life is to win mid, after that, you have to have godlike ult timing.

Probably. Although tbh a lot of the recommended items are dumb. For instance, they recommend AD sion. :/

Panth is a stupidly good 1v1 champ too, be it mid or solo top. Eat them alive I tell ya.

LoL is popularly considered to be "Dota Easy Mode." Take that as you will, but it is definitely different from Dota and HoN. I only know cause I tried HoN and failed miserably and couldn't enjoy it at all after playing LoL first. But I'm sure pink and elucidate you on the subject better than I can, he played HoN like a champ or something.

Popularly considered? By whom? It's just the better game, not to say free and a lot better supported. If you think killing your own creeps is a fun and rewarding mechanic you would probably be better hitting nails in your hand.

As for HoN, why do all the characters look so much alike?

@Rapier, I don't personally play AD Sion because I understand basic game mechanics, but it's not necessarily a bad build and there are a lot of builds that are even worse-ie full ap Sion-.

Because its design isn't as convoluted as DOTA's?

Weeeeell in a way it really is dota easy mode, nothing wrong with that, that is why I love it so much. Great fun, because it isn't as hardcore"" and such. Last hitting is tedious enough sometimes, denying was just god awful, splitting my attention further. I already struggle with map awareness and last hitting and trying to set up ganks, etc.

I suppose I meant that anyone who played dota, and liked dota, pretty much hates lol (just look at the HoN forums -_-). I never liked dota when I tried it ages ago for like ten minutes, and my attempt at HoN was even worse.

@pkc - Dota basically started the, uh....genre that HoN and LoL are apart of. God knows what it is (some people call it Dota clone genre, others MOBA, idk what it really is). You have a symetrical map set up with towers and base buildings. You automatically spawn creeps/minions who constantly try to push the lanes and win the game. The champions level up off the minions, get gold from them for last hitting them, etc. The champions also interact in the field fighting one another, so on and so forth. Killing base buildings results in "super creeps" which help you win the game. You buy items and rank up skills to become more powerful.

HoN and Dota are really, really similar. From what I understood about HoN was basically it was "dota done right." Better graphics, some cleaning up of imba stuff here and there, but basically the same game. People who loved dota loved HoN (in theory?).

LoL took the basic idea and copied it, but changed some things. There aren't runes per say in LoL, but neutral creeps who give champions buffs upon death. Similar, but not quite the same. Also the graphical side of things is much different. LoL is more...cartoony, but it is much easier to see what is going on. The forests of LoL are also different, as in there really isn't any in the Dota sense. If you are in the high brush, you are invisible to anyone outside of it. It is a rather simple mechanic, where in HoN the forest area was much more complicated and such, plus you could eat the trees. :)

Although arguably the most important changes were that, upon death, your champion didn't lose gold in LoL. There was also no denying. What that means is that in Dota/HoN in addition to last hitting enemy creeps for gold, you could last hit your own creeps. When you last hit your own creeps, your enemy does not get exp for that creep death, and also can't get gold from it. Made for an arguably deeper laning phase I suppose, but some people (like me) hate it and thought it was just stupid/anti-fun/counter-intuitive. To each his own.

I'm sure I'm missing bunches (like, LoL's map seems to be much smaller than the Dota/HoN map), and LoL has runes and summoner spells wich HoN/Dota doesn't have, but imo those are minor compared to denying and gold loss on death.

There are bajillions of articles online which talk about the differences, just google it.
