It's been 2 months since I last checked this forum. I'm shocked, just shocked, to see GPG has done absolutely nothing. Sigmatel users still get no sound, while others still get terrible performance and popping. The expansion did not even promise to fix these issues! What's going on with this company? Do they even read this forum anymore?

I am the same way on feeling. I used to play on their online service all the time until one of their patches made this sound issue come up.

GPG Go through your patches line by line if you have to and figure out what started this mess and why it hasn't been fixed.

Every month I check here too, but I dont think they will ever fix it:

they already work on a Xbox port of SC, and of course XACT will be a great help porting the sound... at least now we know the true reason why they stick with this POS.

On the plus side, Supreme Commander seems to have faded away into obscurity, so GPG is reaping the fruit of their arrogance.

Just FYI, for Sigmatel users:

If you install Vista and let Vista choose its own standard "High Def Audio" drivers, your Sigmatel card will work just fine in Supreme COmmander.

Can we get the sound fixed please.
I use the SoundMAX SumpremeFX with the latest drivers from Asus, and the sound effects problem is slowly becoming worse with each patch.

Thought I should post my problem

Using a Laptop (Dell Inspiron E1705) and haven't been getting any sound. What I also can't seem to get is that when I manually download and try to install directX using the directX installer, the installer always comes up with an error just as it is about to finish and aborts the installation. Though the directX installation that the SC:FA install did worked fine.

Lately, new games like SC:FA, "The Witcher", and Bioshock tell me certain DLL files are missing. I can easily find them on the internet, but I'm saying this now just in case it has to do with anything. But the difference between Bioshock and The Witcher and this game was that I was able to play Bioshock and The Witcher with sound easily.

My computer specs are:

1.83GHz Intel Centrino Duo processer
256 MB ATI mobility Radeon X1400 with latest drivers
2 gigs of RAM
Sigmatel sound card (Can't find any more info, dunno how)
Windows XP
Using Laptop built in speakers

Oh yea, I tried switching my laptop sounds around according to Spooky's advice and no dice.

Hi all,
After months of waiting, I noticed so many days ago(can't remember if it's been a few days, or a week or two) Microsoft through windows auto update downloaded a Sigmatel update, I tried Supreme just now after recalling tonight seeing the sound auto update, with much skeptism, IT'S A MIRACLE !!! Sound works fine now!!! (before had no sound anywhere). Letting windows choose Sigmatel drivers, as mentioned on post above, or everything in this thread for that matter, did nothing for Sigmatel with vista64, until this MS sigmatel update(or some update by them I missed in the last few months-as I hadn't tried the game in months). (had no sound issues with any of 23 other games installed)Now I can finally play it since I did the large address aware fix 3 months ago already and now have sound! I just couldn't get into the game with no sound at all. Now I just need a 640mb video card to handle it all!

Happy Camper here! :D

Thats interesting, I got rid of every supcom file and did a fresh install, and no longer get the error I posted after patching, and I still have very limited sound, so I went to MS and downloaded directx and the same thing occurs.

My theory is that with the latest directx, there was an update to xact3d engine causing streaming audio to be set at the wrong volume levels in the game code.
In my case I can see that this would be a very easy fix.

A solution that has worked for me in both vanilla and FA is to switch the audio settings from 5.1ch to stereo.

I did this by bringing up my SoundMAX control panel and used the wizard to switch from 5.1ch to stereo.

Hi Sandact6,
I installed the sound files quoted below in my previous post then like a month or so ago uninstalled the huge developer kit at over 400mb, since I figured it accomplished nothing and I was defragging my HD and cleaning up pc... then very recently through MS auto update I saw one of the updates updating sig files. a couple weeks later I tried game and have sound everywhere. My setting has always been stereo as I just have a 2.1 logitec hooked up by "green sound plug", and I've checked it also in windows...

So if you did all this first, then went back and looked at your MS update history and find any recent patches by MS that might be sound related (maybe 3-4 at most) and reinstall them you might have sound....if you do in same order? (I'm guessing) now I do use a registery repair program weekly called cleanmypc (one of the few that works good for vista64) but whatever combination was left behind and the ms updates got me sound for the first time ever, my sigmatel was updated back in July(havent checked since when I first bought this game since nothing else has issues with drivers),but i have newest MOBO bios and nvidia drivers. So something fixed it, not sure which as I'd given up in summer and figured I'd recheck this thread every so often .

I wouldnt do this though unless you have vista64 and sigmatel onboard and NO sound at all ever and a good reqistry cleaner.

Hopefully soon I'll find the time to start playing the game!

Here's everything I did over last 4-5 months:

I still have sound in windows media player, company of heroes and everything else, ACCEPT SupCom of course......... :(

SigmaTel onboard
vista64 prem

Mikheil I just put mine in new folder on desktop, even though it's an exe it doesn't self install right away as most exe's, once you put it in temp folder find/run setup.exe and it then selfinstalls-I assumed original download, since it's an exe, was going to install immediantly too and I had to designate path) You may (if you have vista) only have DX10 as DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer won't allow DX9 to install,if you get errors in the middle of updating, you must download it here:Try the DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2007),
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/directx/aa937788.aspx

any other ideas???

Then I uninstalled the huge developers kit (first link)
Then MS auto update did 2 or 3 updates over last month....

so I have no idea what actually fixed it :?

Out of curiousity is there anybody with sound in vista64 with sigmatel onboard, and did it always work or just started? :?:

I thought I'd contribute as I've had some sound problems.

I run XP and have RealTek Hi Def onboard. SupCom worked fine, but FA had no sound at all. First time I installed FA it gave me an error saying some .dll's not found. Manually placing .dll's allowed it to run, but no sound.

I found the problem to be that the latest dx9c was not installing properly. I was getting "unknown error"s in XACT3d. I tried reverting to older version and reinstalling, but it was still not installing. Games ran, but dxdiag claimed I was on dx8.1.

So I reformatted, reinstalled xp, reinstalled latest dx9c. Works now.

If when you try to install dx9c, you don't actually see it installing any files, and it goes really quickly, I would guess that this is your problem.

Well, we all kind of knew that there were going to be sound problems in Forged Alliance, after GPG decided to stick with that XACT sound toolkit.

The sound was poppy and scratchy and screechy and glitchy in SupCom off and on, and it's the same way in Forged Alliance with my Realtek onboard sound. I always had sound, but it always sounded bad here and there. When you zoom out or scroll or move around, it will pop a lot, and when you select an item, it will sometimes pop and crackle. And, in Forged Alliance, sometimes the screen will freeze for a split second while the sound catches up.

Anyway, no other games ever had any problems with the new Realtek onboard sound or with the old Sound Blaster Live that was in the old machine, just SupCom, and now Forged Alliance. But then, we knew it was going to happen. The sound has always been the weakest link in SupCom. I kind of know in advance now that if it comes from GPG, the sound is going to mess up on me.

Wow that pretty much summerizes everything this on going on with my game too!

Realtek HD, Vista 64 bit. Same random freezing when zooming out and popping.

I am thinking about buying an x-fi XtremeGamer, has a patched been released of new drivers that have fixed the issue with those sound cards? Also, would the random popping stop with the X-fi? In my old build, I got the random popping on my Audigy 2 ZS, but my realtek HD doesn't pop as bad.

Why hasn't GPG fixed these issues? The game has been out forever and I never hear anyone speak of it now, it is kinda sad. The online lobby is well, very small with maybe 3-5 custom games on active times. Could the lack of support be part of this?

Dear SupComplayers,

I recognise the problems described here and I thought that sharing my experiences might help some other players to get their sound back.

Very recently I received my notebook and I installed SupCom, but the dell Inspiron 1520 in question here uses Sigmatel audio so I wouldnt get any sound at all. Therefore I looked for a solution but nothing seemed to help, until:
I removed my audio drivers once again and reinstalled new ones from the dell suport website. I restarted and it didn't work.
I repeated this, reinstalled and it didnt work. I checked all things I could change again and I found something new (to me):
Right click the audio icon-> recording device-> select the properties of the audio codec -> press the properties button near "controller information-> go to the 2nd tab (drivers? Between general info and details)-> select 'last driver(?)....and suddenly it worked!
I don't know why, but it worked. Maybe it works for someone else too.
I hope you can find your way through these instructions, but because I use the Dutch language settings I don't know what the words are theye use in the English version (and because it's 02.00 I don't have the time to look them up).

Cheers!

So is this in control panel? I'm running XP and I only see Sigmatel audio and sounds and audio devices. Could you give a step by step guide on how this was done?

Running SB X-Fi this solved my problem on FA since I've always had sound on SC. http://forums.gaspowered.com/viewtopic.php?p=347270#347270

Hope this helps, and shame on GPG for letting us IT-Noobs solve their games issues.

Well, the worst was back in SupCom when it crashed to desktop every time that the sound froze up for a second or so.

It's hard to tell if GPG is even aware of any of these things, as they only had one employee that actually looked here at the Tech Support section of their forum.

GPG seems to ignore their Tech Support forum more than any company on the planet, and I suppose they will pay for it over time, if they haven't already.

I also imagine that sales of Forged Alliance aren't anywhere near as good as they were for SupCom, because I suppose that all those who never got SupCom to run on their machines for one reason or another were wise enough never to bother buying Forged Alliance, or they are waiting for Forged Alliance in the bargain bin.

After five months of continuous crashing with SupCom, I finally had to buy a new 'dumbed down' budget machine that seemed to do the trick and could actually run SupCom without crashing. Since I finally got a rig that ran SupCom tolerably fine despite all the glitchy scratchy horrific sound, I figured that Forged Alliance would probably run without crashing on me despite all the horrible screechy poppy temporarily freezy sound.

And, I was right, Forged Alliance, hasn't crashed on my new machine yet (blessed relief!), although there seems to be some very painful slow-down on everything once it gets past 4 players X 500 units, and the sound in Forged Alliance is horrifically bad at times. Thus, I find that I have to stick with 4 player games, as Forged Alliance supposedly needs as much optimization as SupCom needed when it came out.

I have not been all that impressed with GPG, and I have been avoiding all their other games as a result. They supposedly were announcing some new game that they were excited about, and I couldn't help thinking, "Why don't you fix the ones that you have out there first before you make more? I mean, if you can't even fix the ones you have, the problems are just going to carry over into the new ones."

But, whatever! I guess Chris Taylor must have money to burn. Nevertheless, I think people are starting to catch on that this GPG stuff is very glitchy. The ground-swell certainly isn't here any more, not like is was a year ago. No surprise there, considering how effectively people are ignored here in the Tech Section.

I really wanted to like SupCom and Forged Alliance, because it's my kind of game, and my kind of gameplay; but, I find that I have to go elsewhere most of the time just to avoid the frustration and just to keep my sanity and just to have good normal working sound. Working through the glitches and reporting about the glitches and frustrations in SupCom and Forged Alliance can be a full time job for us average nobodies -- considering the fact that we already know that we are going to be ignored and already know that our requests for normal sound in Forged Alliance are not going to be granted.

And lately, I just want to play to have fun rather than play games in order to have another job trying to figure out how to get it to run nice and sound nice. I mean, I have been playing SupCom and Forged Alliance on Windows XP SP2 the whole time, and that operating system is supposed to be stable and debugged by now, yet SupCom and Forged Alliance still don't have it right yet.

Hmm interesting. But honestly, its nice that gpg works on getting it to work properly, but frankly the creative drivers Suck, especially for vista atm. And look at their forums, they cant even give an estimate of a driver update.

I never had the sound issue with SupCom but I m experiencing it now I am playing FA. Weird thing.

As the previous players said the game is awfully stuttering, the sound is scratching...

I tried to lower the audio acceleration : it's quite better but not as smooth and playable as original SupCom is on my computer. "Nosound" works but... it's not a durable way. And of course, my X-Fi audio driver is the last one I found.

Hey developers, what about that issue that has been reported one year ago ?!!

Yeah, and for me it's causing no problems with supcom...but is for all my other games! The worst is City of Heroes, which either momentarily locks up or crashes because of sound issues. Stupid Creative Labs...
